A 8ft bullwhip I'm very proud of (made by me)

Post by eaglecrow »

I finished my 11th bullwhip last week. It is the first bullwhip which I'm going to keep for myself since I'm quit satisfied how it looks and acts. It was also a real joy to make it. ANd it really has the "Indy-feel" I wanted

I did my very best to make some nice pictures, but this one is the best so far. I'll try to post some more details later. I'm looking forward to see your comments

That's a nice whip - I've tried it out and it cracks effortlessly.
I'm so pleased to see IndyBreineder produce a proper Indy bullwhip after mostly making snake whips. Some of you may remember that he and I actually made our first whips together during a weekend at my in-laws', some years ago. There was a lot of trial an error involved at that point!! Since then, Dan hasn't put quite as much time into whipmaking as I did - he was busy enough with his other wonderful leather goods. He's made up for lost time recently though and this latest whip shows that he'll soon be putting out terrific Indy whips.

Come on Dan, no slacking - where's teh next one :whip:

Thank you for your kind comments! I really like it myself, though there are still some little improvements to make.
On my homepage you can find a whip section with some info on whips and previous whips I made:

http://www.lederhandwerk.net/index.php? ... &Itemid=19

and yes, sometimes I even sell them aswell :)

I haven't manage to set up my homepage bilingual yet, so you have to let speak the pictures for themself

What did you use to learn? The David Morgan books?

Shane
I used Ron Edwards book "how to make whips" to get started, along with some really helpful tips about Indy whip making by Nick "Pagey", I also had "braiding fine leather" by David Morgan.
But the main thing was that I could watch Nick getting on with his whips, seeing the development of many of his craft and also listened to the hints he recived from fellow whipmakers all over the world.

but beeing a scout saved some time in learning knots of course

That is some fine work! I've loved the snakewhips you've posted in the past, this one in particular:

I kinda liked this 8ft. snakewhip myself, thank you :)

Since I'm going to keep this whip here, I need to let another whip go. I'm selling a 7ft. bullwhip in the bazzar if any one is interessted.

Heckuva of a whip you have there. It "SCREAMS" Indy to me. You definitely have some talent.

Thank you again for all your kind comments, I appriciate that very much!

I would also welcome constructive critics of course. F.e. would you change anything of the optic of the whip which would make it even more "Indy"? Is there something from the wristloop to the hitch you don't really like?

HONESTLY Daniel, there is nothing I could think of complaining about this whip!
