Thinking about another fedora...
So ive been thinking about a new Fed IV, and I want to bash it Raiders style regardless of what color I buy. Now, I understand the turn, and the bashing it off center once you achieve the turn just right and what not, but, do you have to trim the brim? Meaning once its turned, the front back and sides would now not look right, so you would have to take a little off the front back and sides?
And how would I go about even getting the right cut? I understand marking it with chalk, but how can I achieve a uniform cut?
I cant decide if I want an Indy brown, Seaplane Grey, or Toht Black.

This is very good info. Last year when I was getting into all of this, it was said to me that I should get a Fed IV and turn the hat, cut and shape the brim, bash the top and crease the front, then take off the ribbon and bleach the whole thing. Then re dye it with a light RIT dye and sandpaper the whole thing.
Which seems like an awful lot of work. As it is I thought my Fed looked too dark(you can see it in my avatar) until I finally nailed it with Fullers Earth, then to me it looked alot more screen accurate.

I'm a member of the "jerk club" as well. I have one fedora--a Fed IV standard--and it has a generic bash similar to the Crystal Skull bash. While I love the Raiders hats, I've never really liked the tight pinch and don't think it's right for me. Besides which, "the turn" didn't work for me because of the shape of my head, so I've hand-formed the brim to a shape I can live with.

Gray definately. A gray hat or your Indy brown hat will match with everything you need to worry about: blue suits, brown jackets, seaplanes, trains, motorcycles, zepplins, tanks, trucks, horses, natives, etc.
Who wants a hat like the evil Nazi who got his face melted off? Better off ordering Indy's scout hat (now who has THAT uniform?)

Back on topic, I love grey ebcuase it is the most versatile color for clothing and hats. I would say go for gray, but there is nothing wrong with black. I have a black Bailey's that I wear quite often, though it is more of a casual lid, so I cannot wear it with a suit. Since your going with another Federation, you might want to try the tawny fawn color. I like it a lot and is a great mix up to the Indy-brown. I still think grey would be best. I was just throwing that out there.

The hat came into my posession as a result of yet another person not being able to tell the difference between a "cowboy" hat and a fedora. My brother is a musician and needed to do a western act in a show, so he bought that hat to wear for a cowboy outfit. I liberated the hat from him because anyone who can't tell the difference between a cowboy hat and a Fedora doesn't deserve either.

You'd have to count me in as a jerk as well. My first fedora was a Fed Deluxe in a LC/CS cross. I got the Raiders hat next.Indiana Joyce wrote:Well if youve got a hat thats bashed for a generic kind of ToD/LC/KOTCS feel, then you will eventually need a Raiders...and that time has come for me.
See I went backwards because all the Indys I knew all went Raiders right out of the box and I have to be different because Im a jerk.
