Scotchguarding my Fed Deluxe?

Well, I'm still waiting for my Fed Dlx to show up at my door step. But it's been raining quite a bit here in Central Texas, lately, and I don't want to get my hat soaked the first time I wear it. So do you guys recommend Scotchguarding the hat? Or is there some other kind of weatherproofing treatment that would work better?

I always give a light misting of standard Scotchgard on all my fedoras as soon as I get them, allowing them to completely air dry after application. I've had no problems what so ever with all makes and models of fedoras, except with Stetson, which bleeds REGARDLESS of what you put on it.

What other benifits are there to using Scotchgard? Do the fedora's old their shape better and longer?

Anytime you can reduce the exposure of felt to moisture, the answer is to both your questions is 'yes'. Regards. Michaelson

I just use a dose of Scouts "rain and stain" protector everytime I re-bash my hat, seems to do the trick!

...which is essentially Scotchgard outdoor garments protector. Anything you can get from Scouts is good stuff, but Scotchgard is easier to locate locally, and does the same job, or least has in my experience to date. I use Scouts felt stiffiner, that is, when I use stiffiner. Regards. Michaelson

. I kind of figgured that but didn't want to risk my hat *shudder*

It's fine if it gets run over, blood stained, or soaked in sewage water whilst on an adventure...but if it gets wrecked sitting at home on my hat stand....AH!
