Why are Nowaks' so great?

Post by IndyGeek78 »

Im still a bit wet behind the ears when it comes to certain matters on here. What's so special about a Tony Nowak coat. Im not trying to imply they're not good It's just Ive never seen one. I tried looking at some online bu never seemed to get many images. Anyone want to enlighten me a little?

If you read a number of the Nowak threads in this section they should tell you everything you want to know and more! There's plenty of reviews, pictures, and opinions regarding the jackets he made for IndyIV as well as his Raiders repro. It's all in here. Pull up a chair and read a while. ;-)

they are great because they are manufactured by hides blessed by the pope, sewn together by thread that is spooled from golden fleece, hardware forged from the fires of mt. doom, and each jacket has been sprayed with harrison ford's sweat which was bottled during the filming of LC........

seriously though.......they're great because they have top notch construction (like a g&b expo) and have beautiful non-chrome tanned leather with choice of distressing.......built EXACTLY how you want it. that is why they are so great.

It's the "Rolls Royce" or the "Ferrari" of all Indy Jackets.

All other Indy Jackets are just pond scum. :)

Few people realize Tony places a small amount of unicorn hair into the lining of each jacket. The only catch is you have to rip out your lining to try and find it.

I'll let you know when mine arrives...

Oops my bad, I guess if you don't put a smiley face after things when you are joking, people think you are "getting out of hand". Sorry.

I love my Wested, and wouldn't part with it ever.

I was just saying that the Nowak jacket was getting the Obama treatment here and I was getting a kick out of it.

I'd actually love to try one on sometime.

Thanks for the backup 89.

I'm thinking my next jacket will actually be a Novapelle Nowak. I've heard some great stuff, and lamb just doesn't take the beating that I like to give my jackets.

it's a joke folks so just chillax. remember the golden answer to the ultimate indygear question........"what is the best {enter type of gear here}"

........it's the one you got on :)

is MY TN jacket better than MY wested's....heck ya

is MY TN jacket better than maboot's lamb wested........no its not, and my TN can't hold a light to it either....... ;-)

everyone has a jacket preferrence and what they consider as their grail jacket. no gearhead should belittle the other for their choice and what they've chosen as their go-to jacket. that's not how its done imo.

Is it? I wasn't sure. I heard it for the first time a few months ago, googled the heck out of it, and finally asked on the forum and was told it was a fancy term for cow leather. In fact, I'm relieved because I would prefer to say cow leather than Novapelle. Sounds less French. :)

So, let me rephrase. If I buy another jacket, it will be a Nowak COW LEATHER Crystal Skull.

I think if you ask anyone else for Novapelle they won't have a clue what you are talking about. Googling it only brings up references to Wested.

Unless you spell it wrong in which case you get some age defying product web site in Canada

No Indy89, I don't think so. I think PSB's comment was CLEARLY sarcastic. If you frequent these boards, you know he's said plenty of great things about Westeds and plenty of critical things about Nowaks. And vice versa. So I don't think any 'back-up' was/is required. In fact, I think it's part of where these things go wrong.

Maboot, my point was just that a comment like yours often throws these threads off track into a whizzing contest. I think G stated the point very eloquently. I suppose I'm just frustrated that it seems every thread these days ultimately devolves into a Nowak v. Wested debate lately.

And IndyGeek, back on topic, I think you've answered your own question. You haven't seen one yet. As with most gear, you'll find it's tough to really understand whether or not an item works for you until you do. It may suit you, it may not. But there a certain positives that are pretty undeniable about a Nowak -- the level of customization and quality of craftsmanship. Subjectively, I would add that it just looks and feels 'Indy' right out of the box in a way no other vendor's jacket does. The cut is unique to it.

I think it depends on the leather, at least for the Raiders. I know you don't want to bother him but he's the best person to get pricing from and find out about options

CS jacket 675
Raiders shunken lamb 975
Raiders in other hides (goat, matte lamb etc.) 750

shipping not included.

I am sure other hides may be different. These prices will give you an idea at least but if you get serious call him, you will have too anyway to order. They are worth every penny.

!!! That's a hard question to answer. Are you asking how much did he charge the production crew of Indy IV for each jacket? Or are you saying, in the time period the movie is set, how much would Tony charge for his jacket?? Factoring in inflation, and the fact that there's no "Indiana Jones move" phenomenon in the movie, I'd say they were pretty cheap.

OK, I get that alot of people like the nowak, but you can only comment on looks and fit. Because, the oldest nowak jacket is 7 months old.. so none of you can really comment on durability.

Dutch, we get it, you don't like the Nowak jackets too much. But do you really think the jackets won't be durable? Do you think he uses self-destructing thread or some sort of super entropic leather?

It's not like the Indy jacket was his first try at a jacket; he's been at this a long time and am sure he know how to make things that will last a bit. He even tells people to wear and abuse the jackets, not look at them.
