Wested TOD jacket what leather?

Sorry, this one is a bit subjective and all about me.

I want to buy one of those fabulous TOD jackets from Peter, but I do not like lamb.

Should I go for goat or experiment with Horse?

Are there any problems in getting this jacket made in tougher hide?

there should be no problem getting the jacket in a thicker hide(cow,horse).the only thing that is needed is that everything that is glued will be stitched.like the hem.

as for the hide.I would go for the goatskin,looks the part and you dont have to stitch the hem.

I haven't ordered a jacket yet, but when I do I will order one in washed goat. It seems like it's the most sturdy, and it looks pretty good from all the pictures I've seen.

I thought Wested wasn't offering the ToD in cow or hh? Are they willing to make a ToD in thicker leathers as long as the buyer knows it'll be caveat emptor?

I like my authentic lamb but if I had it to do over again, I would go washed goat. It really looks the part out of the box. The auth lamb like the dark lamb looks TOO new. I'd have to do some drastic distressing for the auth lamb to look the part.

I like my latest authentic lamb, it seems heavier than the first. but it is just lamb.
If you want tough though, the Goat is the way to go. Hopefully Wested will get it in soon.
HH would also be interesting. Holt got some that was thin for his jacket but would it be thin enough?

CM.....if you go with washed goat (which i believe is a wonderful draping, matte finish, tough hide), be sure to let wested know that you don't want any hide discolourations on it. the rejected batch of washed goat that peter turned away on his TOD jackets is winding up on his OTR offerings for some reason. ie - dark spine mark lines across the hide.

if you haven't seen what i'm talking about, just picture a jacket with a stripe down the back......if the contrast were reversed on the jacket, you'd have this guy chasing you with flowers and candy.......

I'm thrilled with my ToD in washed goat! As G says, it drapes beautifully, has a great matte finish, and is very tough. I can't recommend that hide enough.

dark spine mark lines across the hide

Has anyone seen the jackets with this on it? I think I remember seeing a post of the raw hide before it was cut for a jacket.

I wonder if someone that got the washed goat when it first came out has pics on how it's weathering. I love the hide myself but (as I've posted before) I wonder how it will look in the long run. If it looks like a ten year old jacket in a matter of months, what will it look like in ten years?

Don't get me wrong though, I think it's a fabulous hide and one that looks the part right out of the package.

My washed goat looks great and I've been wearing it non-stop for the past few months. I really don't see this leather being less than long-lasting. A photo of the jacket today wouldn't look much different than when it was new this summer. In my thread about Peru I mention I beat on it daily for two weeks and it was great, so I'd have no trouble getting another one. It's my favorite leather so far, to be honest.
