Any Suggestions or Success Stories....?

Post by Jonny Whip Crack »

Hi everyone. Over the last year I have really sweat in my AB fedora, and having a larger than life forehead, I've left to large spots of sweat stain in the satin lining. My question is, has anyone had luck removing such stains from their hat, and what did you do? I've read blotting with 1/2 peroxide and 1/2 water halps get sweat stains out, or 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water works too. I'm scared to try and have it ruin the felt underneith, or cause another problem altogether. Is it a matter of replacing the sweat band (does Steve do that, and can Steve do that?), or is it something I should leave ("that's the purpose of the lining"). Any stories or suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Jonny

After reviewing my message, I am only referring to the satin lining, NOT the sweat band.
Sorry

Leave it. It will get dirty again anyway.

Yeah, leave it! The lining is to keep the sweat stains from being in the felt! Besides...... who sees them anyway except you, when you're NOT wearing the hat (which should be never)? ;-) :P

If it gets to the point that you want to deal with it, I recommend removing the liner for cleaning. AB liners are sewn in, so if you peak under the sweatband, you'll see the threads to cut. When you put it back in, just tuck the liner edges under the sweatband and place hat on head.

I have been told that woolite works nicely for cleaning. You might also ask Steve or Marc if they recommend something.
