Video of my Christy's hats (Sable and Burma)

Post by Erri »

This could be rather boring for people uninterested to the hat itself but I believe it gives a decent idea of what you can pull out of a Christy's hat. The first is the adventurer in the sable colour while in the last part you can see the Burma which works well as a "Raiders grey"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbWMFXi6XQc

I hope a few of you will appreciate the little effort.

More pictures and info about my "Raiders grey" here: viewtopic.php?t=36083

It's very interesting seeing hats "in motion"! :whip:
Can you upgrade the video with a section with you "manipulating" the hat? I ask this because I think it's very useful also evaluate how much stiff/soft is the hat. ;-)

PS. Sorry for my neolithic (n-e-o-lith...) english...

"neolithic (n-e-o-lith...) English..." that's a great one

Well I could yes but my lovely assistant is not with me right now so it's hard to "manipulate" (anothe great one) the hat AND hold the camera. I could use the tripod of course but a part from today I'm hardly at home. We will see what I can do ;-)
Thanks for your comment, I hope I will be able to post what you asked soon enough

I thought the burma colour would have been better appreciated in a video ;-)

Hey Erri,

Like the video.
I agree with the color of the Burma Hat. I ordered one back in April when the Hornethat site was first talked about. The burma color caught my eye. When I ordered it, this was the email I recieved:
Dear Mr Garrison,

Thank you for your order for a Fur Felt Adventurer. You have ordered the Adventurer in the Burma colour. This is our first order for this hat in this colour and I just wanted to double check that you did indeed want it in the Burma and not Light Sable which is the colour of the hat in the image.
This was from Justin (nice guy by the way)

I insisted it was the color I wanted. They responded very quickly and recieved the hat with 10 days. The color was maybe a shade lighter than what I saw on film, but was very close. The closest I had seen any where. Alas, I tore it :( trying to reblock it. Now, I am not making a statement on felt quality. That is a different issue. The color is what I loved. The color reminded me of the hats my grandfathers wore. I honestly believe it is the closest color I have seen. I have one on order again and should receive it this week. I'll take some pics of mine to before I do anything to it and add it to this thread if you would not mind. I will reblock this hat to my current block stlye, though.

I'm certain now that the color of the Raiders travel hat was burma. Nice work Erri, that video will definately help members looking for THE seaplane hat.

Yes, a lot of us were aware of Burma's similarity in color back then. I think we were still also caught up in how nice it made a brown fedora too.

If only you posted a picture of that hat before reblocking it I think a lot more people would have bought it long before me. Why reblocking it anyway??? that's crazy
I agree that Justin is the nicest guy.
Please do post pictures when you receive them, in this thread or wherever you want but please do not reblock it LOL

Thanks a lot Dirk, very interesting observation.

Thanks Dave, I hope indeed that the video helps. You can catch the colour variations much better in a video than still pictures.
If the Raiders grey was not the burma, it was well darn close!

I know. Don't scold me too bad.  . The crown, I'm sorry to say, was not as nice as your crown. That is why I reblocked it. It was part of my great block quest. By the way, my hat size is 60 cm. I say this because I have read where some folks think the size of the hat might have to do with some crown differences.
You have pulled off a great style with your hat. The more relaxed pinch is a key element for the travel hat. I have always liked that style of the unturned "dressy, go meeting" look with no curl in the brim. Even the "Washington steps" version where they tried the turned look on an unturned hat.

Ahhh the great block quest... lots of victims already fell there. That's where Forrestal crashed in

Ok sorry for the beating before  I didn't mean to sound bad. Sorry again
My hat size is 59 so it's not that far from yours. It would be nice to see pictures of yours too but I understand if you want to wait till the new one arrives ;-)

My 2 Christy´s are also 59cm and had no troubles. Both came with nice tall and straight crown. I wonder how the one I´m currently waiting for will look.

That Burma is a beauty of a color. Really close to the travel gray hat in Indy, it looks like a very nice bash job too. BTW, has anyone else told you that you look a lot like Keanu Reeves? Not kidding!!! Now I know what Keanu looks like in a fedora!!!
