QUESTION....about fashion!!!
I'm currently looking for a casual leather jacket that I can wear with jeans. I want a jacket that's rugged, yet stylish and unique. I don't want to stick out, I prefer to "blend in with the crowd."
What are your opinions on wearing the Indy jacket with a pair of jeans and t-shirt/button down shirt, etc.?
POST PICS IF YOU HAVE ANY!
Thanks!!

Re: QUESTION....about fashion!!!
That's how I wear mine everyday. People, for the most part are just going to assume its a brown leather jacket, you will blend in. I haven't had 1 person stop me and say "That's an Indiana Jones Jacket." Which honestly, I'd be pleased if they did.Mississippi Jones wrote:What are your opinions on wearing the Indy jacket with a pair of jeans and t-shirt/button down shirt, etc.?
Since I've gotten mine (USW LE) I've noticed so many people wearing brown leather jackets its actually amusing. One of my vendors stopped by last week to discuss work and he was wearing a close enough LC jacket with the storm flap w/button, flat collar... but with an elastic waist.
I didn't have the heart to inform him he wasn't SA ;-)

I wear my wested lamb just about every day with everything from dress chinos to jeans to corduroys. It totally works, and nobody ever hums the indy theme song when I walk by.
Now, if I were to add the fedora......different story.
So trust us, the jacket works fine casually with jeans. Just looks like a brown leather jacket. Unless you are a gearhead, you won't associate the jacket with the good Dr.

That is my everyday attire (when it's cool/cold outside). What are your opinions on wearing the Indy jacket with a pair of jeans and t-shirt/button down shirt, etc.?
I usually wear my jacket with jeans, a button down shirt or t-shirt, web belt, and boots. ;-)
Here's a pic of me in my jacket. It was a Sunday when this was taken so that's why I have on khakis.

What's the jacket of choice for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong-Il? The Members Only jacket!!

That could be the new distressing fad!!!! Sleep in it... Too wimpy! Wash it... Too wimpy! WORK OUT IN IT.... Just right! You might want to avoid the pool though... The chemicals might give it that shrunken lamb look.I even wear one of my Westeds with my gym-wear (yes, I do remove it before a work out!).

A good A-2 flight jacket works with anything. That's what I reach for when I'm not in the mood to pull out an Indy jacket. I have for years, and did before Indy ever hit the big screen.
Considering an A-2 shows up the original conceptual art for Indy, you'd even be 'Indy' connected. ;-)

I'm feeling better about it... Whipwarrior I like your jacket. It looks like Novapelle, yes?
What I really like about the Indy jacket is the back, the adjustable straps, and the fact that there is no elastic on it. There is nothing else like it.... it truly is unique and that is what I'm looking for.
I guess since the Indy hype is starting to calm down now, looking inconspicuous would be easier...

Another member here for whom jeans and tee shirts are everyday wear. Now that the temperature has dropped here in Southern California I've been able to wear my Wested almost every day. Except for family and friends I haven't received one comment about it; to most people it's just a brown leather jacket.
That said, this thread reminds me of this thread in which Jr. Jones commented he felt "a little funny" at times when he wore his Fedora in public. IMO the answer is the same for both questions--you either wear the jacket or let the jacket wear you.

It's even the same price. ;-)
I wear mine with sweaters this time of year and a Sundrop hat...Would upload a picture but I'n not savvy enough to post on from my documents to here...oh well.
I was in Book Eddy in Knoxville, TN the other day though and saw a fellow working there in an Indy fedora--unmistakable. I was thinking "Man, how obvious can you get" just as I remembered the Wested on my back. I didn't get a chance to talk to him, as I probably would have compared gear notes and such. [/img]

Re: QUESTION....about fashion!!!
Another alternative? Check sites like eBay where you can look at tons of jackets. Then you can pick a style that may be very Indy-ish, yet not a copy of the Indy jacket. Isolate the general style, then go looking for it.Mississippi Jones wrote:I'm currently looking for a casual leather jacket that I can wear with jeans.
There are a also lot of sites that sell vintage leather jackets. They are all broken in and cool-looking, but not Indy jackets. Great character and cool-looking jackets that do not stand out per se, but are still distinctive looking.

I'm not going to say it isn't nice, but I find it too trendy. Leather jackets can last for decades. I advocate buying styles that will last just as long. The A2 and the Indy jacket are exactly that sort - basic, simple, unembellished, and classic.blueoakleyz wrote:I have a taste for lambskin in the near future and a fashion jacket

It's not the clothes you wear, its your attitude.

Was it the outfit that made Jones "Jones," or was it his attitude.
James Dean... was it the blue jeans and red jacket with the collar turned up? Or the way he carried himself?
Bogart or Grant... was it the tux or the way he walked into the room?
Be YOU! In the infinite universe, there can be only one for a finite time. Make the most of it and wear your Jones jacket if you already have one.
There are limits to what 'attitude' can pull off though. The correct jacket can help give you the attitude as it will 'feel right'. The 80's showed plenty of folks with attitude, but goofy jackets that DO NOT stand up to today.
Michaelson said it best as usual. The A-2 is a classic place to build from. Oh, and Mississippi Jones, you can have more than one jacket. Each can compliment a particular outfit. I recommend 20 or 30 jackets

I'm kind of looking for something that's trendy and fashionable. Plus it's only like $100 and we have a JC Penny's card.
Actually I don't have a clue what's in fashion. How do I find out?

Well, that's definitely not IN fashion, but you could make your own fashion statement if you want. Honestly, buy what makes you happy. It'd be more prudent do buy something that you can wear regularly, but ultimately it's your dollar and your wardrobe. Fedoras aren't in fashion right now either, but that's not stopping us, is it?

If you have the dough, you could ask Magnoli.
I like whipwarrior's jacket! But I'm hoping Santa will bring me a Todd's like IndianaBogart's for Christmas.
And yes, if I am so blessed, I'll likely wear it most often with jeans and a T.

Ya she's a good one... She's a bit of a baby, whines like Willie, but is loyal and likes to cuddle -much like Marion. I wanted to name her Indiana, but the girlfriend thought Jilly Bean had a nicer ring to it. I usually just call her Bean.
Regarding the topic of fashion... Dude - pick the Indy coat which speaks to you. Buy it and then wear the ba-geezas out of it. No one will even know it's an Indy unless you tell 'em or they are an uber-geek like me or anyone else that belongs to this forum. Ya that's right. We're all geeks. Deal with it.
I wear my Nowak with the habersack almost everyday and no one gets it. Mind you, when I get my AB (any day now!!!), I may have to be careful wearin' all three pieces together... Even for me that might be a bit much.
That said, I'm having Steve put Fullers Earth on my hat before he ships it and some COW members feel that may be too costumey for everyday use... I want it like that because I know how it will make me feel. Like a big kid wearin' a hat like Indy's! The Fuller's Earth will just make it that much more special. So... ultimately do what feels the most comfortable to you.
I say feel like a kid everyday and be proud of it. The inner child connection to these clothes is what it's all about. If someone asks you in a judging tone "Are you wearing an Indiana Jones costume?" Just look at them in the coolest way possible and say "Yes... and I rule."
