Dyeing a hat

I have a custom hat that was made for me by a friend and there have been sweat stains that sort of make the hat look unsightly. Does anyone know how to color some of these white spots or does anyone know who would do this as I would be happy to pay.

They're just salt deposits in the felt. You should be able to just wash them out. I have to do it every couple of days during the summer. It really gets hot down here in SC.

Yes, as CMike said, those are salt deposits with some oil from your forehead... The way to clean it is to take a sock and make a very compressed roll, after you do that, put some nylon cord around it, in order to keep it compressed.
Now take a little white gasoline and with the sock rub the stains and that should do it... Leave it the whole night in an "open" place (you don't want the smell of gasoline in your home! haha). And that's it!

You can also use lighter fluid, as this is naptha as well. Or, do like me and buy it by the gallon at a building supply store. This is the traditional cleaning solution for dirt, and sweat stains in the hat industry. Just remember to do this cleaning OUTSIDE! Otherwise, you will hear helicopters!! WHOOMP, WHOOMP, WHOOMP. And have visual hallucinations. The fumes are deadly. Fedora

Will lighter fluid also work on a lighter hat that has darker smudges?

I've never use the lighter fluid, but it's a derivate of the petroleum so basically it's the same thing as the white gasoline... and that's the way all the hats are cleaned the old fashion way as far as I know... Use only a sock that is white to avoid staining the hat with the color of the sock

To make sure, clean a small part and see if there's no problem.
