The Raiders jacket consensus.

Post by Rundquist »

Here’s a place to place all contrasting views on the Raider jacket, just so other threads don’t get hijacked. Have at it.

There is no consensus. The only thing that is clear to me is that if there was on original pattern, the hero jacket (the jacket used in many shots) was not made from it. Terry Leonard’s jacket had a bit of a shorter collar than at least the jacket that Tony Nowak looked at. Indeed if you look at the footage of Leonard, the G&B Expedition collar is pretty much right on the money. When I compared my expeditions to my TN Indy 1, most of the measurements were really very comparable. The expeditions were longer in length, but only because I had them made that way. In fact when I tried Expeditions on in the G&B showroom, the regular length was comparable to my TN Indy 1 standard. The major difference in measurements is indeed the collar length. The TN Indy 1 has a longer collar. The Wested that Holt just had made (with the longer collar) looks right (for the hero jacket). The other difference was that the TN Indy 1 had the exact same measurements in the back & front. The Expedition was a bit longer in the back, but the differential was not as much as on a Crystal Skull jacket (the CS jacket was much longer in the back). Again there was no rhyme or reason to the specs of the Raiders jacket. If a third jacket could be found and examined, it would be very interesting to compare its measurements to these two. Cheers

Here's some food for thought.
The collar on my TN jacket is EXACTLY the same length as the collar from my Todd's custom (which was the result of measurements supplied by _ from the Terry Leonard jacket).

That's a head shaker. :-k Again, screen grabs are open to interpretation, but it at least appears that the Terry Leonard jacket has a shorter collar. It also looks to have a more squarish angled collar. That's what I observe.

Didn't G+B actually examine the Terry Leonard jacket, or did they also use measurements by _?

Perhaps the main hero jacket is the prototype and Ford simply preferred it over the others? Hence, the major differences from the others and similarities in all the rest.

rundquist.....your collar may, and i stress the word 'may', be a result of big tony taking my specs and standardizing them again.....i've seen the size of his collar increase from the first batch to now. from what i can tell, it looks like he has patterned the size of the indy 4 collar (not shape of course, but just the length). this may be a result of me mucking with the specs again.....except on my jacket, i added some length and width on top of the indy 4 length sizing.....it happened with the yoke seam, the k stitching, and the zipper. i'm thinking this is also being mimiced/patterned.

my question on the other thread still holds - "was the original jacket that was copied in so poor of shape that these specifications did not translate well to a replica?"

will there ever be another 001/888 or did slydini luck out with that one of a kind jacket. slydini....you are in a very nice situation to have a real 'original' tony nowak original :)

All good queries. It doesn’t matter to me personally, but if one really cared about that sort of thing (as I know many here do), it is enough make your head spin.

i'm with you. i'm asking for the benefit of knowledge to potential buyers........as i am happy as a pig in #### with my jacket.........sorry a5, i'm gonna keep using that analogy perhaps because of its contrasting nature

Tony told me that Slydini's jacket was NOT the first Indy 1 jacket to be made. It just happened to be the first one that we SAW here and Slydini just happened to pick LE # 001. Tony said that he'd actually made quite a few Indy 1 jackets before Slydini's, but they were sold to people who don't post on these forums.

I don't think so, since Tony is declaring otherwise

I also have the impression that Slydini's jacket is the only one that came out that way, although we do see the pocket flap shape on one of the 'test' jackets that was displayed at the QM summit.
