jacket size panic

Post by rover smith »

Hey Folks.

Been lurking round here ages. finally got a question to post.

Ordered a custom Wested Raiders in washed goat size 40. I'd measured my chest at 37" so figured the 38 would be a little tight and went with a 40.

I tried on some size 40 leather jackets in a department store the other day and found them to be a little on the large side. I know the raiders jackets come from an 80s/slim pattern.

I emailed Wested and Gemma said the jacket had already been cut, so i couldnt resize.

Can anyone tell me how the fit of these jackets is?

Many thanks.

You'll be fine, the only difference is the jacket might crease a little more in the underarms area than it otherwise would, but it will work out in the long run. On the plus side, it'll give you room to grow into, and room to layer up.

Hey Platon, seen the movie a kijillion times like most folks round here :)

i've already ordered it, just had a panic after trying on the aforementioned jackets.

Castor, Im a pretty slim build and think i've done all my growing unless i hit the pie shop.

I do wear a 38 in dress shirt which is pretty snug. Just freakin out, its the first time i've ordered a custom jacket.

In some scenes it wasn't tight. In others, it looks much more fitted and even shorter in some places. As has been discussed in numerous threads, there was more than one jacket in Raiders. I don't think you can say "THE Raiders" jacket wasn't tight. Some were more fitted than others. Depends on the scene.

Cheers

There may have been more than one jacket in Raiders but _ has written that they were all the same size, all size 40. What varied was stitching and pocket/collar configeration. ;-)

As an option, if it's a bit big when you receive it then just soak it & run it throught the drier on low heat -- it'll snug it up a little. Just be careful with the sleeve length...

I kinda like a tight fit jacket (particularly leather), but as i live in Scotland being able to layer is probably a good thing. I have been checking out the jacket threads on the forum so i could make an "informed decison" with regards to my Indy jacket.

Thanks for the advice so far.

I'll see how it is when I get it, and post pics. I know you all like pics here ;)

I would suppose the 40 will be ok, if anything, according to my experience, it may possibly be on the tight side. I don't see how it would be too loose.
