Per the request of some...The Specs AND PICS

Post by Cabinetman »

In the process of answering a question under another thread, I was asked for specs on my new Wested lamb, and finding/making a little time now, here they are. What I asked for is in black, regular text. Anything differing from my order on the jacket as received is in bold caps:

Details

Please use 1980’s slimmer cut with the tad smaller collar. (THE COLLAR IS SMALLER THAN MY FIRST JACKET; POINTS - if actual points - WOULD BE 2-3/4") Some of these dimensions or operations may be a function of that pattern. Also note some of the following dimensions vary slightly from the website sizing chart.

Style: Raiders
Skin: Authentic Brown Lambskin
Jacket Size: 42 Long
Height: 73”
Chest: 42”
Waist: 36”
Shoulder: 6.75”
Back at Seam: 19.25” (this taken from my previous jacket) 18.75”
Sleeve length: 25.75” 26”
Back length: 26.5” 27.5”
Open Cuff: 12” (finished outside circumference at wrist; standard arm opening where sleeve meets torso, taper to wrist) 13”
Cargo pockets: Use current standard shape, sizing and placement (no greater than 1.5” from bottom of jacket) DIDN'T CHECK THESE...THEY'RE FINE
Inside pocket: 1 (one) left, as standard, but without full leather facing. Use only the minimal leather edge treatment.
Zipper: Antique brass
Side strap: Anodized black rectangular slider NEW RECTANGULAR RINGS; THIS IS FINE, BUT IS NOT WHAT I REQUESTED; I GUESS THIS IS WHAT HE’LL USE NOW??
Lining: Cotton Silesia body with Satin sleeves
Gussets: Please include underarm gussets. WHICH, I GUESS, ARE PRETTY NICE. I DIDN’T HAVE THEM ON MY PREVIOUS ONE, BUT I DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE THEY REALLY MAKE, IN MY CASE, THAT IS

On the advice of another customer, please make sure that all the Authentic Lamb used is of the firmer stock. IT’S ALL VERY CONSISTENT IN FEEL, DRAPE, WEIGHT, THICKNESS, ETC.

ALSO, MIKE, I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY ABOUT THE LARGER ARM HOLES AT THE SHOULDER. IT WON'T BE A PROBLEM, BUT I CAN CERTAINLY SEE WHERE A BIT LARGER MAY BE BENEFICIAL, EVEN FOR A T-SHIRT.

I am also sending an e-mail with a picture to illustrate my previous jacket’s arm seams, and what I would like to avoid. In short, the inside seams were a bit too far forward. Any action (if possible) to correct this would be most appreciated. Thank you very much. I GOT AN E-MAIL FROM GERRY A COUPLE DAYS AGO IN RESPONSE TO ONE I HAD SENT WESTED REGARDING THE SLEEVES NOT BEING TAPERED AS MUCH AS I HAD ASKED AND THE INSIDE ARM SEAMS FACING FORWARD (NEITHER OF WHICH ARE ANY BIG DEAL). HERE’S WHAT SHE HAD TO SAY:

…Firstly I am glad to hear that you like the jacket and that it fits you well.

Secondly, we did taper the wrists as much as we could without spoiling the drape of the garment but if you order another jacket in the future remind us that you are adamant on the 12” cuff and we will provide it.

Unfortunately, we cannot change the seams in this jacket and you should have been advised of this at the outset of your order and I apologise for this oversight.

We aim to please all our customers 100% and we are sorry we have failed on this occasion but we hope this does not spoil your enjoyment of the jacket.

Regards Gerry

TO WHICH I REPSONDED:

…Being the experts, I knew you would do what you could to accommodate my requests, and I know that you did your best. That's all anyone can ask. My enjoyment is not at all spoiled, and I look so forward to continued wearing through this favorite time of year. Autumn in Illinois is as nice as a Wested Lamb. So, you see, they compliment each other nicely.

Thanks for your note. All my best to you, Peter, and staff…

We now need some pics. I am going to post those of me in the too short goat that we took before relinquishing it to Lindiana, and in this new one. It fits just like I wanted it to. I am very pleased. Timing on the order was 4 weeks exactly: Monday, August 25th, to Monday, September 22.

I'll add pics hopefully this weekend.

Cab

P.S. and for some reason, this jacket is minus a hanging loop on the inside of the collar stand.

Flatsy,

I didn't ask for the additional front length as I did not experience this phenomenon with my first jacket. With this one, actually, I haven't paid enough attention yet. Perhaps we'll see when the pics get posted. LOOKS LIKE IN THE PICS THE FRONT DOES RIDE UP SOME IN BOTH "SPECIES". I JUST DIDN'T NOTICE IT SO MUCH WITH THE GOAT. BTW, THE GOAT SIDE PIC IS UNZIPPED, THE LAMB SIDE PIC IS ZIPPED.

I wouldn't worry about the loop (and I know you won't  ). You'll never use it anyway. Sounds like a nice jacket, my friend! Regards. Michaelson

Does anybody use this loop? They do not look particularly strong, but it would solve the problem of hanger marks on the shoulders.

I use the loop to hang my keys from when I put the jacket on my hanger
at my desk at work.

This way, they are right there, and not in my pocket. And there is now
way I can loose them, or think I lost them when I am too dumb to look
in a pocket, because if I put the jacket on, with the keys still on the loop,
they dig into my neck and remind me that they are there.

Just my one and half cents.

Sounds like a great jacket! Congrats. Question--Do you find that the size 42 with 18.75 in. (vice 19.25) at back seam is slightly constraining?

I ordered a jacket a month ago and the back is a bit tight, as well as the arms, especially when driving(even with guesssets).

Lao,

Not at all. It seems to work a little better, actually. I am curious to see if it is discernible as far as looks go compared to my previous jacket. But, no, it doesn't feel snug at all. I don't wear anything heavy underneath, though (sweatshirt, thicker flannel shirt, etc.), but for someone wanting to layer, a fuller cut might be in order. And, just for information's sake, I am average build. I'm not sure if that's grammatically correct...

Cabinetman...Good to hear it works for you. I have the exact situation as Mr. Das--a little tight in back, under arms (I too have gussets), especially when driving. Gerry asserts that it wil loosen up with wear. Hope he's right.

I use the loop quite often and I don't have any hanger marks on the shoulders or weird wrinkles.

When I ordered my pre-distressed cowhide from Peter, took a lot of measurements from my 40R Flightsuits seal chrome goat Expedition and then added the following requests:

"Requests:

I would like the early Raiders cut from the early 80's pattern. I have a 35 inch waist so I don't want too much extra material in the body.

PRE-DISTRESSED COWHIDE.

SMALL Underarm GUSSETS.

Cargo pockets: Left pocket positioned 1 inch away from storm flap seam
and 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the jacket hem. I would like each cargo pocket, including the flap, to be 8 inches long by 7 inches wide.
The pocket flap is to be 3 inches from the top of the rolled seam to the lowest point of the flap. The right side pocket positioned 1 1/2" from the where the zipper attaches and 1 1/2 inches up from the bottom of the jacket hem.

NO INTERFACING IN THE POCKET FLAPS.

Zipper: I would like for the track to EXTEND ALMOST TO THE BOTTOM of the jacket hem.

Lining: Only the collar stand with leather facing.

Back panel: Top of panel extends all the way out to the INSIDE edge of
the sleeve seam.

Collar: NO WIDER THAN 3 inches at the tip. NO INTERFACING in the collar.

Inside pocket: NO SNAP NOR ZIPPER."

I also included Sergei's photo of the pocket with the dimensions and measurements as a visual.

Sounds great Cabinetman, I'm glad you finally got one the way you wanted. I've been breaking in the old goat of your's nicely and been pretty rough with it in some recent hikes. I have not yet been able to put any kind of distressing it in though, this stuff is like kevlar. My lambskin is incredible too, but only goes out when I know it won't get touched, hurt, or even breathed on wrong. If you need any pics of the "old goat" for your comparisons let me know.

Who's up for a weenie roast? I am on my way out for one right now.

Lindy, Mrs. Cab and I took several shots prior to its trek to northern IL, but it might be neat to see how well it is sized for your height. Appreciate your offer.

Previous Goat in a 42 Reg - specs may still be found somewhere in this forum ("happy owners..."). This jacket is now being enjoyed by, and fitting better on, our friend and fellow statesman, Lindiana.

And here's the new lamb...Specs at the beginning of this thread.

As I sit and pay bills right now, PBG, that perplexed look is appropriate.

"So long, screwie...See ya in Saint Louie!"

C, my man, have I not told you I subscribe to the Michaelson school of natural distressing? I mean, how much more distressing could that face get??

Busy, busy. Weekends bad and weekdays worse. BUT, BUT, BUT...I have a deal for you regarding the act. What do you think about pool liner blue?

We'll catch up sooner than later, I hope, though.
