Novapelle, Pecards or not?
I can't decide if I want to put Pecards on my coat, what do you guys think?

Absolutely. Since I got my CS novapelle in April, I've given it about four solid coats of Pecard's, and it looks awesome. The leather appears darker, feels heavier, and the jacket has a nice rain repellent quality. Also, in certain light, it's nearly indistinguishable from Wested's original lambskin.

My PD cow has started feeling dryer with the approaching winter.. for all you pecard users, which one would be best for this to keep the look, but add the protection and help with the dryness? Lotion? Gel?

makes it sound like the lotion is the way to go.. not just for a cowhide, but for the much anticipated lamb

I'm more of a fan of the jell for cowhide and goatskin, reserving the lotion for lambskin.
Either way, they all will darken up your cowhide, the lesser with the lotion, as it will evaporate a lot faster from the hide than the regular jell or standard Pecards, and negating the original intent of applying it to your dry jacket in the first place. ;-)

I treated my Novapelle Raiders with Pecards when I first got it. The jacket looked like it had been dyed black for the first couple of days! It has been a few weeks now and it is definitely a nice dark brown now, although still much darker than when I first received it.
Would I do it again? Probably. It didn't hurt anything and it took away that so-called velvety feel that I didn't really like. I work with my hands a lot and the jacket texture would catch on my skin. It was a bit unpleasant, but now it's much better.

I *think* that's what I used. It's a white creme that comes in a tub right?Raider S wrote:Use the Pecards creme - the white stuff. That's what the man at Pecards told me to use in my USW vintage cow. It will give the water resistance and protect the leather but still allow the distressing/character to show and not darken the jacket. Trust me on this one!

Well I applied a very thin coat of the leather dressing yesterday morning to my novapelle and I am very happy witht the result. It did darken some, not as much as I thought it would, and the leather loosened up nicely. The jacket doesn't feel as stiff anymore. It did get rid of the velvety or suede type feel the jacket has but I actually prefer it this way. I may add another thin coat tonight. I will attempt to add some pics later in the day.

Mine was MUCH darker than that, like I said, almost black, after just one coat of the standard dressing. But of course I really slathered it on in the hot sun. The leather soaked up every trace of it.whipwarrior wrote:Here is a Wested novapelle after 4 coats of standard Pecards dressing:
My jacket still hasn't lightened up to where yours is yet.

Very nice. The other problem I have with pecards seems to be applying it evenly. I dont want to mess this up, so im hesitant to apply it, even tho I want my jacket to look as beautiful(yet beat up, god we are an odd bunch) as it can. Its only been here 3 and a half days and I just never want to take it off. I didnt know I could feel this way about a jacket.
I've had my jacket for about 3 and a half weeks and I feel the same way. This morning the temperature was in the 60s and my first thought was "COOL! I can wear my jacket!"Indiana Joyce wrote:Its only been here 3 and a half days and I just never want to take it off. I didnt know I could feel this way about a jacket.

Im actually appling pecards as I speak. I did one side, then took a picture to see if I could get the camera to pick up the difference. I can see it with my eyes but dont know about the camera.
It definitely darkens the leather, pretty much as soon as the dressing hits it.
The right side is coated, the left was natural.
Thats after the whole jacket was done. I then left it hanging up to dry so I could buff it out the next morning...nothing to buff out. it soaked right into the jacket. Now to me it looks the same as when I bought it, but it feels softer and lost that velvety feel, that after a while felt like sandpaper lol.
I might put a second coat on this weekend.

Yes, I did notice that the standard dressing has a faint bees wax scent. Once it's applied the scent goes away.Michaelson wrote:The Standard has more bees wax than the 'creme' or jell does. That's why you see a bit more 'sheen' on KT's jacket. It polishes up a bit more than the Creme does.
Personally I use the creme, but that's just a personal choice.

Here are a few pictures of mine. The jacket has had two coats of the standard pecard's leather dressing with the most recent being applied very early yesterday. "Tonight" turned into two weeks on me per my previous post.
And yes that little "speck" on the right chest near the shoulder is "natural distressing" and I have NO idea what happened and it drives me INSANE.

That is a possibility Michaelson, my wife things a small ember from a cigarette may have hit the jacket as well.
Something I want to add is this hide really soaks up the pecards. I have treated it twice now and there has been no excess of the pecards to wipe off. I always have excess to wipe off with my whip and boots.
