LL Bean Shirt color question...
Just a quick question, I was going to buy the LL Bean shirt but is the color "Tan" as shown
really going to look like the one on indygear.com...
BTW, these shirts are not available until October 27, 2003... apparently everyone has one already, LOL!

You can see a picture of what the shirt actually looks like on Cooler's site www.theindyexperience.com. Under Articles and Raiders on the Big Screen there are pics from the Louisville Summit. I am wearing an LLBean shirt (I'm the one with the goatee). That will give you an idea of the color.
You can also check out the "shirt-section" on my webside http://www.IndianaJones.dk
The pictures there are taken in daylight, and the color is pretty close to
what You get from L.L. Bean.
Best regards
JAN

Thanks guys and looking at Jan and Blackthorne's pics sure put my mind at ease. The color looks more like an in-between the two, it's not as stone color as the second pic but it's not as khaki as the top pic either. So I've ordered mine, hopefully I'll be happy with the outcome when I get it after October 27.

That picture you posted must be the new version that is being made in China. What was originally at the IndyGear site, was the previous US made version. It will be interesting to see how different in color and in quality this will be.
I have an LL Bean shirt as well. It looks very similar to Blackthorne Rose's shirt at the Louisville Summit pictures. It is a tad too dark. Just noticably so. Our expert resident dye-craftsmen, Rabittooth and Dalexs, have tried their hardest to bleach the LL Bean shirt. Whatever LL Bean does, the dye in that shirt just won't bleach out. I think it was Rab or Dalexs that went through about 15 bleach cycles and it barely budged the color. We are talking steadfast in the color department.
That picture you posted Indy Den, if it's accurate looks like a little too much brown with the tan. Who knows it might bleach out better. If you can neutralize the color back to white, then you can go to the IndyGear site and pick up from there on how to dye the shirt to the "stone" color. The recipe is entirely there.
I hope things work out. The LL BEAN shirt is tough as nails.
As we update the major parts of the IndyGear site sometime this year (yes, we are comiting to a way overdue update), it does look like the shirt section needs some revising. But overall you can take a peek there as well. There is a LL Bean shirt there as well and that is the tan we are talking about from a few years back.
Good luck. Let us know what you find out. Now, that MBA is out of the picture, the alternate shirt hunt is more meaningful.

Sergei, thanks for your info. I'm still waiting for LL Bean to restock their shirts and get one out to me. So most likely I won't have it until November. Like what you've said, I sure hope that the color comes out closer to stone than dark khaki. But since they don't offer their shirts in stone anymore, I'll just have to wait and see.
It sure is a pity that MBA is going out of business, it's getting harder to keep Indygear authentic now. I'm hoping that the LL Bean shirt will stick to their original quality and tan color. It's good to know that they are "tough as nails." I'm quite rough around the edges with my gear and they do take a beating.
I hope to check out the Indygear site when you're through with the upodates. I've printed out the website months ago and bounded the pages together into a book - I always refer to it religiously.
Thanks for all the hard work in keeping up the site, without it, none of my gear would've been possible. I'll keep you all posted when I get my shirt. I do like the style of the shirt though, it's really close to the real MBA Indy shirt.

RonC, only the "Tan" color shirts (all sizes I think) are back-ordered until Oct. 27th. The blue and green shirts are available now. Which leads me to suspect that COW and Indygear is influencing a bigger audience than we think.RonC wrote:I believe I will be going with the "stone" color myself. If needed, I can always attempt to dye it a few shades darker. Does anyone know if all the colors are back-ordered until the 27th of October?
You can always add the shirt to your cart and checkout to see if you get a backordered notice.
In case anyone needs it, the link for the shirt is:

indy_den, et al: I'm thinking of ordering this Cabela's shirt, in "Stone."

It's not 100% cotton, but I do like the color.

Yeah, the Cabellas shirt is what I recommend. The color "stone" is close to accurate. It so tough. It is so stain resistant and wrinkle free. You can spill wine, tomatoe sauce and it just wipes off. I have bought about 8 Cabellas shirts, with about 5 in the stone color. There a couple of downsides. The buttons are of course not accurate. The LL Bean buttons are very close, and the advantage goes to LL Bean there. The other downside is that it is a warm shirt. It's 65/45 cotton poly blend. So it's not practical to wear in the summer. It doesn't breath enough for summer conditions. But for me it's a 3 season shirt. Like I said, there is just no sign of wear and tear on any of my Cabellas. See the review on it at the main site.

Yeah the Cabellas stone is a cool color. Just swap out the buttons with something more neutral (grey or light tan). In fact I am thinking of using one of my Cabellas shirt in sacrifice, to put in the "strips" or pleats in the front of the shirt. I'll have a seamstress do that form me. With those two mods, the shirt should be perfect. Of course, given that the remaining issue is that it will be too hot for summer wear.
