Ok ok back on topic now sorry!
Anyway, jackets... I'm proud to be the first person in Austria to be receiving Tony's Raiders jacket. Should be here at the beginning of December.

I wouldn't even necessarily say the CS jacket is better-designed. I found movement to be easier in my G&B, and I'm wondering if it's the gussets. I also find the yoke on the CS jacket too a bit too low to let the action pleat be functional. All of this leads to the sleeves having to be longer than before. You tend to move in the jacket, vs the jacket moving with you. I don't believe it's the fit of my CS jacket, either. Indy's jacket has similar characteristics.Rundquist wrote: With all due respect (to anyone that likes the Crystal Skull jacket or had anything to do with its creation), it just is not as cool as the Raider jacket that TN is offering (in my opinion). The CS jacket is a better-designed jacket for sure, but it just doesn’t have the swashbuckling mystique of that Raider jacket. That jacket is the A-bomb.
Of course, interior pocket design, collar construction and other details on the CS jacket are very nice.
It's pretty much impossible to beat a G&B on design. I was talking generalities. A standard G&B expedition in goat is probably the Indy Jacket world champ for functionality & toughness. A TN Raiders is still made out of lambskin (albeit a great thick lambskin). The expo. is made for the reel world, if nothing else. Not that a TN isn't built tough, but we are talking lambskin & goatskin here.Baldwyn wrote:I wouldn't even necessarily say the CS jacket is better-designed. Funny thing is I talked to Tony last night regarding leather samples. He said what he hates about samples is that folks expect an entire jacket to look like the 4 inch square sample they see, when the characteristics of leather are generally more varied overall. He told be it takes 6 lamb hides to make a single jacket, so it's impossible to expect one tiny sample to account for multiple animals.
Another thing I've begun to notice with my shrunken lamb Indy 1 is that the leather has a life of its own. The more I wear it, the more it naturally stretches and smoothes out in some areas or reacts to how it folds, etc.

I don't disagree. There's something about have a tactile sample to see and feel. But I can see his point that some people would expect an entire jacket to look as "uniform" as a small sample. The six jackets I saw in person had a lot more going on in the leather than what a small sample would show. But if you want samples, what's it hurt to ask?Dutch_jones wrote:IMO the samples are just a little more touchable and better to see the hide from then from pictures, I mean with a sample you can touch it and see it for yourself, Its not an uncommon thing in this sort of business.... and it could attract potentional customers.

Well nothing its just a matter of receiving a reply from him hehe! I certainly have to say after seeing your jacket, it looks ALOT better than the other two from what we could see so far, no offense guys, but this looks like a jacket made for you ! perfect fit...binkmeisterRick wrote:I don't disagree. Well, it WAS a jacket made for me, Dutch! According to what Mr. King said to me when discussing measurements in PMs, my jacket is just 1/2" off from Ford's, so I think Harry must have some long legs!

Most certainly. It just keeps getting better the more I wear it. I met up with Mike Sunday afternoon so he could take a look at my jacket. He tried to give it back by handing me a different jacket! That every gearhead who sees this jacket in person wants to steal it off my back, it confirms to me this jacket's got the mojo!Michaelson wrote:If bink's jacket looked that good then, I can only imagine how much better it's draping now after a few weeks of regular wear.
That's the neat thing about lambskin regardless of maker....they form fit pretty fast, and only get better with regular wear.

Just be sure to NOT look at the tag when you put it on.binkmeisterRick wrote: I met up with Mike Sunday afternoon so he could take a look at my jacket. He tried to give it back by handing me a different jacket!
…Oh wait that's it…Tony ran out of tags and decided to use a G&B, so there's nothing wrong with your jacket.

Well, you know that would never happen with me.binkmeisterRick wrote:That every gearhead who sees this jacket in person wants to steal it off my back, it confirms to me this jacket's got the mojo!
Considering the difference in our size, from past discussions, I could only get it over one shoulder.

Although I think Bink's jacket is one of the nicest Indy's I've seen in some time I'm still not sold on the collar. As Holt has recently pointed out and I have for years, the collar on the main hero jacket seems different than the rest of the jackets. It appears, or is longer than the others. Now, I know the jacket Tony copied may not and probably did not have this feature but I've always wanted to get down to the bottom of why this was so I can adjust the specs for any future orders I'd make.
According to Tony this is the jacket he copied and as you can see this collar is more adjusted and even than the pics above.

my todd's washed lamb did that easily......but the proportional measurements did not make for a great fitting jacket.I have seen no jacket that does this...
i asked tony to ensure that my collar sits below my shirt collar as seen in the pics and that the lapels are proportioned respectively.
here's hoping that he nails it....which i am quite confident that he will
I just thought of something. I recall reading that Ford traded off jackets with the stunt people. Perhaps Ford is wearing what was to be a stunt persons jacket which accounts for the longer collar. If one of the stuntmen had a much larger neck then the jacket would have been to their size, not Fords. If Ford just grabbed jackets as he did hats then it is reasonable to say thats why the collar is a bit larger/longer than on other jackets.
Todd has said he believes that since the shirt is never buttoned up all the way that the costumers intentionally made his shirt collar smaller to give him a more heafty appearance since he was so thin, thus making the jacket collar appear longer. I'm not buying that in the least but it is another theory on the table.
What say you, Holt?

I am with you agent5.dont believe it.but yes another theory....
I believe that the neck on the orignal jacket was cut deeper to the front so the collar hangs more to the chest.I said to peter that I want this to be done and it shoud be no problem.I even have spoken to a tailor about this here in Norway.she said what I said above.cut the neck deeper to the front so the collarband becomes longer.
just look at this, even though I have the jacket a little pushed back in the neck, the collar would still be an inch or so shorter if I had the jacket on like ford has in the picture.
standard wested collar compared with original.

_ wrote that all the jackets made for the films were exactly the same size. Any differences were simply down to individual cutting/distressing differences. In other words, they supplied X number of jackets for Raiders, all in size 40. I like Todd think the collar differences are down to minor differences in cutting and stretching/water treatment done to make the jacket look old.agent5 wrote:I just thought of something. Is it possible that Ford was a lot scrawnier than we imagined? I mean he looked awfully thin in his Solo shots for Star Wars. It would make sense that a person with a smaller weight and frame would make a normal sized collar appear disproportioned to their size? Just an idea since his actual physical dimensions are not well documented. And when they are there from his publicist, agent or studio.
If anyone remembers the movie Tango and Cash, Stallone walked on a platform every time he was shown next to Kurt Russell to appear equal in stature, this is Hollywood.
