The Fed III crown height was not designed just for Indy fans, but also for vintage style hat lovers. They ended up compromising with a crown height that varied by hat size, starting at 5 1/2 inches for small sizes and going up from there. That was influenced the brim width.BazzanoJones wrote:And, if I remember, the Fed III don't have the dimensional cut of the brim.
One question: why the new Fed III was taller than IV?
What of the two hat have the more SA crown?
The Fed IV is targeted much more for the Indy fan, so it's generally a more accurate hat. As for which crown is more SA; The IV has less taper and the right height for Raiders and Skull. Some prefer the III, but in the strictest sense, the IV is more SA.
