they seemed longer....don't know about wider. then again, i don't know what 'standard' is. when i was doing up my own raiders specs long ago, my pockets came out too small.....but that was the assumed size back then. i personally think they were larger than most people believe.

Hey, guys.

I want to make a thread with all these ROLA specific sizing details in one place. I have the specs from my order, based on my research done on this site and a lot of watching Raiders, looking at screen grabs etc.

I think the "platon Pockets" are/were the size to get for a size 40 raiders. From there, you might consider scaling up/down as needed at a rate of 5% per size, i.e. my size 42 is 'plus 5%' on the pockets, a size 44 would be plus 10% etc.

The Platon Pocket size is (for my order): pockets 7.25” tall x 6.75” wide with scalloped flaps and nickel snaps (Scaled up "PLATON" pockets- see photo attached) +5%. So that's for a size 42, a "ford size" 40 would be 7" tall and 6.5" wide.

The Nowak jacket has pocket size of 6" X 8" for reference; however it apparently is not seen much in the film (opening sequence only it seems) so the pockets we see "most" are on other jackets apparently... I personally think the Nowak pockets seem a bit too big in relation to the jacket (based on what I see on screen) and feel that the Platon sizing is about right.

Not a Wested but my Expedition is size 42 T, the pockets are 6.5 wide and just under 8 inches long.

Stunt jacket size maybe? What makes them look better than most westeds is the generous pocket flap which is cut narrower and slightly deeper. Makes the pocket look more like the film version. to me, anyway.

That is a good point and brings up something we rarely chat about (the size, anyway)

we often look at the shape of the flap, but never the size of the flap.

The 8 inch height seems to be (from the Nowak version) the pocket height, but maybe the flap itself needs to be taller a bit on the Wested?

I don't know for certain, but I think the Nowak flap on the Platon pocket would be perfect- if that flap is significantly taller, it my require the pocket to be a bit taller... :-k Interesting point you bring up sir!

This is why I want to make a dedicated (and hopefullt sticky) thread on the ROLA jacket, so no matter who you order from, the 'look' is right. Scaling up from Ford's apparent size of 40 short to what ever size you wear without making it look like this: Image Nothing against Todd's as he makes an excellent jacket, particularly for the price, but he did not scale everything as the height grew to crazy tall, and that jacket looks freakish...

That sounds good!

looking at the Todd's photo above, I think the space below the pocket should be scaled as well... :-k

Sorry I've been away for the weekend Coronado3, but I'll whip out my tape measure and jacket for you immediately and post the results ;-)

It probably will J!m, but it probably won't have the specs of a Wested 42 ROLA Special in there as Coronado3 is asking about ;-)

About those measurements: Pocket lengt on mine is 8.27" (including the flap of course) and the width is 6.5".

Hope to have been of help once more ;-)

Dimentions to be listed will be for Ford's jacket- 40R or possibly 40Short...

Good job on those pocket sizes! :notworthy:

Thanks for the info.... I have been debating about getting a custom or an off the rack ROTLA in reg. goat. I think I'll go with the custom as I tend to like the shorter PLATON sized pockets and really want it in washed goat.

I post the specs I am ordering in J!m's new thread!

Well.... I am always eager to encourage; but I am trying to make that thread somewhat dedicated to compie the research that many of the senior members have done to get the details just right.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I want to try and create a thread 'worthy' of stickiness- mainly 'facts' (as we see them on-screen) substantiated wherever possible by first hand accounts.

I suggest you start a new thread with the specs you decided on, and post pictures there once you get it!

PS I will be deleting posts of my own, and have mods do the same to keep it as 'trim' as possible once it is (more-or-less) finished.

I am doing a lot of digging through posts here, and plan to PM the senior "Jacketmeisters" to clarify and add their latest discoveries and opinions to keep it as fresh and relevant as possible.

We will never put the raider's jacket to bed until a true "hero" jacket is obtained for replication (perhaps several will be needed?) and the final stitch nazi is put to rest.

My 42 Custom novapelle has 7.5" x 6.5" pockets. I made no special request regarding the pockets.

My 40 ROLA Washed Goat has 6.5 x 8.25 pockets if you measure to the top of the flap. If you lift the flap open and just measure the pocket, it's 7.5 tall.
