So I was looking on the Wested website the other day. Not buying anything soon, just looking for later down the road if I ever need to replace my Todds. After looking at the custom jacket page and the different options I had a few questions:
1. What are the extra gussets? What are gussets at all?
2. I know what the x-box stitching is, but is it SA or just a durability thing?
3. The metal sliders are SA....right?
4. What is considered the best hide for a SA Raiders look? My guess would be Lambskin or goat, but which is better as far as SA vs. durability?
These are just curiosity questions more than anything else. I'm not planning on buying a new jacket any time soon, but I was just wondering for later down the road. I'm sure someone here can answer all of these for me *cough...Holt...cough!*.
Thanks guys,
IB

Underarm strips, or ribs of leather, located at the armpit, allowing for ease of movement. Your Todds jacket has gussets. Some jackets can be made with multiple gussets.
Both SA and durability.
right! Sliders or "loops" are better for thinner leather, holds the straps in place.
SA....obviously lamb. Durability, many members really like the washed goat hide at present, for its toughness and appearance. The OTR washed goat found on the Wested page:
http://www.ekmpowershop4.com/ekmps/shop ... es-9-c.asp
for $213.89.
Hope that helps, Bogey! ;-)

Yes Holt, I'm new to the jacket thing. Not neccesarily a new gear head, but I'm fairly new to the little details of the jacket. I just got my first jacket back in July, Todds standard. All I knew about it at the time was that it was considered the most SA jacket available and the price was just too good. I really like it and wear it all the time now that the weather is cooler.
Anyway.....so there were 2 hero jackets? I just assumed there was one main jacket that Ford wore, just like there was one main hat that he wore. Please continue to enlighten me on this.
