Anyone recently (as in the last year) ordered the dark brown lamb from Wested? I have an authentic brown and really like it. But I thought I might buy the dark brown. My previous Westeds were dark brown because authentic brown wasn't offered at that time, but they seemed almost black. If the newer dark brown can split the difference between the authentic brown and the older dark brown, I may be persuaded. And since everyone's currency is in the crapper, I thought now might be a good time to buy, what with the exchange rate being on a more even keel.

Here's my post on the Wested Raiders Dark Brown Lamb I got just a few weeks ago. It was off the rack size 42 with no customization. I was worried too about the dark brown being too black but now I wonder how light the Authentic brown is. I think you'd like it and others who have them do, too.

If I were to get a secnd one I'd ask for recangular sliders at the side vents instead of D-rings, the more scalloped shape pocket flap seen in many of these threads, and I'd have the back yoke raised about a inch so it hits the arm abovr the arm seam. Don't know how much more htat would cost over an off the rack model. Or I could get a Todds for lighter weather wear.hoose55 wrote:Thanks Holt & Ipa, I think my next purchase will be the dark lamb. That's a very nice looking jacket.

If you call and ask, wested will send you the rectangular rings. You can easily change them yourself with a pair of pliers.
You just open the D rings and take them off, then put the rectangular ones in place.
Pocket flaps are a bit more difficult to alter...
The Todd's is a great option if it fits you! None of the off the rack sizes he has fit me properly...

Gemma at Wested actually offered to send me some without my even asking! I expect them next week. I did order some from a company here in the US but didn't like them that much because the color was applied and not integral to the metal and in several places it had chipped off, not boding well for withstanding wear.J!m wrote:If you call and ask, wested will send you the rectangular rings. But possibly more "Screen acurate" as I beleive some of the buckle hardware was painted by wardrobe along with the zipers...
Glad to hear Wested is taking care of you!
I suspect Peter does read the threads pertaining to his product and tries to please everyone (which is not posible with this bunch).

Thanks, J!m for helping put being SA in perspective. I wonder if painting my dark brass standard Wested zipper a nickel color it would be harder to actually zip? I guess it doesn't matter if you're only making a movie, instead of actually, well, living.J!m wrote:But possibly more "Screen acurate" as I beleive some of the buckle hardware was painted by wardrobe along with the zippers...

Yes, living vs. looking good on screen are considerations that must be weighed.
The original zippers were aluminum, but they failed constantly in the movie.
Personally, I'd be a bit mad if my $300+ jacket's zipper broke the second time I zipped it up, yet many are going through the trouble of finding an Al zip and sending it to Peter.
I was considering brass, as some were painted to look this way anyway, and they work a bit better (in my opinion) than the nickel ones do. I have nickel on my Schott, and it is fine, but a larger 8-gage zipper.
In the end, I went with nickel as it looks 'silver' and will far outlast the aluminum, probably 10 to 1.
So, for 'living' I suggest nickel or brass, for movie work, I suggest brass. I advise against aluminum on all but a red Michael Jackson replica jacket that would weigh 20 extra pounds if all those zippers were nickel rather than aluminum...
