I believe what you are interpreting as "weathering and splotches" is texture and grain of the leather. It's only a photo and you have to look closely.

I've seen enough photos in this thread and others to be convinced Tony has selected the correct leather.
He will of course make one with a leather you choose.

that last pic posted by mmrosy best illustrates the form fit of the raiders jacket and the way the pleat/back panels are unique to this jacket. I know the jacket is a bit pulled forward, you can still see how much higher up the back the pleat begins as compared to other jackets in the movies. The Raven bar scene pics show this to - when the jacket is sitting more square of the shoulders. The pleat just runs higher up (look at the pic with Indy holding onto the front of the truck) - this is why the pleat seems to work so much better while he is wearing it.

Also, the sleeves are shown to be much more slim cut and fitted to the arms, like a Bronco A2 or biker jacket. These two things are what stand out the most in the Raiders jacket versus other jackets in the series. Are these features noticeabe on the TN version?

Actually the sleeves on the TN CS and Indy I look exactly the same, they're big and baggy , what I saw from castors pic.

I believe what you are interpreting as "texture and grain" is weathering causing uneven coloring of the leather as well as some wrinkles just like I get on the back panels of my jackets.

Can we agree to disagree?

I've spent the better part of my life looking at images as a professional and I'm not in any position to state beyond a doubt that either one of us is correct.

I would say that the sleeves on my Indy I jacket are more fitted than my Indy IV jacket. ;-)

maaan :O that would not fit me at all ! I have a size 44 Wested and I think the 27 inch back on that is just about right, Althought It could be longer.
24.5 sounds like a belly button sweater to me

I can't help but feel the Indy 1 sleeve still looks alot like this picture above
and not so much like this one:

:-k Hmmm.....interesting point about the sleeves Dutch. The pics posted in the Nowak jacket owners thread of the Indy I do look more like the CS sleeves. I'm sure one could request slimmer sleeves and Tony would happily oblige but that brings us back to the old "since he had THE jacket why do I need to provide specs?...."

exactly. one of the unique things about the Raider jacket are the slim fit sleeves. A TN Indy 1 owner said that they are more form fitting than the Indy4 they have, but, while that is true, the Indy 1's sleeves still are not as slim as they seem to be in every pic I see from the movie.

wasn't there a discussion some time ago with the Todd's jacket concerning the diameter of the shoulder holes where the sleeves begin. I think the TN Raiders shoulder holes may be too big. Of course, this is my guess from seeing pics.

Compelling point Hold, however notice in that shot that the jacket is falling off his shoulders a bit. I think this definitely adds to the baggier sleeve look. Notice how far down the shoulder seam is....

Is this the same jacket as the bantu wind pic? That one is clearly a slim sleeve.

Has anybody tried to soak this jacket yet ? That's what they did for the earlier film jackets.
Bet it looks super accurate on this one!

Just playing devil's advocate and thinking aloud, I wonder what kind of other leathers Tony would do this jacket in (I know, I know, call the man  ). But I'm not a enough of a leather expert to call him and say "I want this or I want this 20 year old, distressed, butter dressed Neplalese Yak." I need multiple choice questions for this.

I emailed Tony about that very thing. I told him it wasn't because I was opposed to what he's using, I said I was simply looking for a cheaper option. He said he would know within a couple of days about different leather options. I will be sure to relay the info. ;-)

RCS I actually did see that, thanks! I was going by Castor's pics, the sleeves just seem quite baggy. Here's the pic from that thread:

Again, I think this is a small point that Tony can change for anyone ordering a jacket.

Cheers!

Yes it is,

OK. I've just finished my first telephone conversation with Tony Nowak. He's a really nice guy as everyone who has spoken to him has already said. He didn't pressure me into buying a jacket (and I haven't purchased one). I wanted to share a bit of the info that he gave to me though while it was still fresh in my mind.

1. Raiders jacket that he had was only in his posession for 1 day (same deal as the Smithsonian jacket which he was allowed to borrow for 1 day when he was making his Indy 4 jacket).

2. He maintains that the jacket he had is the jacket which is featured in the opening jungle scenes of Raiders only. He said this jacket was NOT seen in ANY other parts of the movie.

3. He stands by his decision to use "shrunken lamb" and says that it is the closest match to the leather that he saw on the jacket which he was allowed to borrow for a day. He did say that the jackets in the rest of the movie WERE different. In other words, if you're looking for a jacket that is specifically from the opening jungle scenes shot on location, this is the one for you. All other scenes will be a different jacket to the one that he borrowed.

4. He confirmed that the "Leather Concessionaires" jacket was loaned to him by "sparks" - the producer from Hong Kong.

5. He said that the pocket size on the "jacket that matters" was 6 x 8 inches!

Thought you guys would be interested in hearing some of these bits of info.

He never told me a specific scene. So it was used in the Kauai shoot and not the temple scenes(in england)? Cause the picture he showed me that he said had him convinced of the leather was from the idol grab scenes? Other then that detail everything else is consistant with what he has told me and others? So your not still not sold, Chris? As much as I would love one of these jackets I have to be realistic and succumb to the fact that, unless this was a copy of 'THE HERO', I CANNOT justify spending a grand on a jacket. I own one of his CS jackets so Ill just have to be content with that. UNLESS ofcourse he can use other leathers that bring the cost way down then It might be in the cards. Im sure he'll bring a jacket or two to the QM so all those guys can get to see one of these masterpieces. To those who allready own or are planning on getting one of these jackets congratulations and as always; Wear it in good health! ;-)

6 x 8 on THAT particular jacket featured only in the location shots at the beginning of the movie.

I'm quite certain that Platon's sizes are an accurate representation of the pockets seen on the other jackets Ford wears throughout the rest of the movie.

Hi Joe,

He was very specific about the jacket being featured in those opening jungle scenes. He said that he's going to give me some more DVD times to look at which show what he believes is the jacket he had.

Honestly, I just don't know what to think. There's many factors that are troubling me but yet I have no reason to believe that Tony isn't telling us the facts as he sees them (or has been told). He's completely convinced that the "shrunken lamb" he's chosen is an accurate match to the jacket which is seen in the opening jungle scenes. Maybe Tony is grouping the "idol grab" scenes in with the exterior location scenes?

I think that scene was on stage. There's no way that the pockets on the jacket in that particular scene are 6 x 8.
My analysis of photo reference for those pockets correspond with Platon's 6.5 x 7 inch measurement. There's always going to be a margin for error when just using photos for reference, but those pockets are almost square in that scene and I believe the height is less than 1 inch taller than the width.

This will make it a little easier for me to resist getting one of these (I do not need to spend a $1000 on a jacket right now but logic doesn't seem to play much of a part in my jacket purchases). My (and this is only my) Raiders jacket is in the idol grab sequences. I'm not versed well enough yet to tell where else that jacket is in the movie, but that's the one I want. While the jacket from the location shoot is a nice jacket, it's not the one I would absolutely have to have.

Of course, if Tony offers it in other leathers and at a lower price...

But... But... Tony's current leather is just simply... IT! It looks like a well worn adventure jacket, behaves like what you see on screen, and feels like a thousand bucks! It simply is worth it, as I'm sure G will agree! ;-)

we're a small demographic though castor. very small....extremely correct, but very small :P

lot of the folks don't like the expensive grainy stuff, why not shoot for centre mass to maximize sales?

btw - i spoke to tony in regards to the original hide......very dynamic stuff from what i hear. the leather is laid out and an enzyme is spread all over it which causes it to shrink. when you start wearing it, with your body pulling at it and 'fitting to it', it will "mold" as needed (in a more dynamic way than normal leather)...thats what i took away from his description.....i guess i wasn't too far off the mark when i referenced the black spidey suit......
