Grey hat question for the experts (turned or not?)

Post by Erri »

About the grey hat in Raiders, would everyone agree that it was worn not turned, unlike the regular "hero hat" which was turned on Ford's head?

Well I'm no expert, but since I recently got a moonstone Fed IV for a Clipper hat, I spent a great deal of time staring at the screen at the grey hat and it doesn't seem to be turned. The brim is not warped and is actually fairly flat all the way around, which wouldn't be the case if the hat were turned. But then again I'm no expert, but that's just my 2 cents.

Hi,

It has been suggested the "turn" was the consequence of HF deliberately twisting the hat to one side to make it more tight-fitting, and so less likely to fall, in action sequences. This was, apparently, a common trick in Westerns.

The grey hat appears just in a couple of quiet scenes, so such an action would not be needed.

Regards!

I quite agree with you two. The brim does look very flat and no peculiar shapes on it, and no action was involved in those scenes, quite right. Thanks for sharing your view guys.

Your quite welcome Erri. Again, I'm by no means an expert, but I feel that I do have a decent eye for detail and what not. But I suppose that if you wanted to know for sure then maybe Michaelson would help us out. (hint, hint ;-) )

(Now that you bring this up, I would like to know for sure as well, cause I'll be getting my Fed IV moonstone for Christmas, and I'm making a Raiders clipper hat out of it.)

It's a un-turned hat. I have a grey Raiders hat (AB ) but I turned mine just because I like the look.

Thanks BendingOak, by the way I've seen a nice grey hat on your website too ;-)
Have you had anyone posting a picture of a grey hat of yours on cow yet? I'm rather intrigued

Oak is 100% right (not that anyone would doubt him)! Steve Delk himself has pointed out that the gray seaplane and washington hat are not turned. However, several memebers have turned them. If it's what you like, why not?
