Whip hanging from web belt in Indy 4?
In Crystal Skull, when Indy and gang escape from the first truck truck and jump over to the duck, Indy is wearing his whip as usual, only he no longer has his gun belt with the whip holder thingy on it. His whip is at his side like this for the rest of the film, web belt only.
So how is he still carrying his whip on his hip?
I thought the whip hangy thing was on his gun holster belt.

I'd also be curious to find out what happened to that funny gun holster looking type thingy that he had attached to that brown leather belt type of strap that he had on. I wish he had kept it. It looked so good and really matched that brown felt head covering article that he always wore with his brown sleeved thing that looks like a shirt only thicker and was usually worn over his shirt.

Seriously though, easy guys, we all know what it was like to be new to the whole Indy gear thing.
Ha ha ha. All in good fun. I've been on here for a while now and I still make some pretty great gaffes. I would hope that when I do, someone makes fun of me in a hillarious fashion as well.
No malice intended. Just kidding around.
I think the whole idea of him grabbing his whip but not his belt and holster to be pretty silly, both from a story perspective and a moviemaking perspective, but that's neither here nor there.
It looks like his whip is hanging off of his web belt. I've tried it. Theoretically, it would work, and certainly would be the best option when going over 3 waterfalls in a duck boat.

Well, considering whips should be hung uncoiled to begin with, start by coiling the whip on the belt, then add that it is now pressed directly against the body so that it is heated non-uniformly. Over time, I can imagine that it isn't the healthiest way to wear a whip.
I'm not saying wearing it off your belt for an evening is going to ruin it, but I think in order to keep the whip where it needs to be, the belt would need to be tight, which could pinch the whip out of shape slightly.

They might not look tough, but web belts are incredibly long lasting. I've been wearing the same one for probably close to 20 years, and my grandfather used it with his military uniform before that. I almost always have my leatherman on it and it hasn't failed me yet. Looks like ####, but hasn't failed.IndianaBogart wrote:I've tried it too. It's actually more comfortable IMO, however I think if someone did that all the time like Indy, then the web belt would have a very short life.

I definitely know that they're tough, I'm just saying with a heavy whip, such as a Morgan or Jacka hanging off of it and bouncing around, etc. it might put some wear on it very quick. But yes, they're VERY tough. They might not look tough, but web belts are incredibly long lasting. KOTCS Whip Holder
Easy fellas, not everyone is as knowledgeable about the gear details as us die hards. The whip holder went through four transformations being different in all four of the films. The latest, KOTCS, holder looks something like the one below and can be worn on the web belt or the gun belt as needed.
Though I'm guessing that if they make another film, Indy won't have a whip or a gun at all as they seem to be making the films more 'kid-friendly' and less violent. Notice in KOTCS he uses his whip twice and never fires a shot with the pistol.
