I want to darken the top knot on the Terry Jacka Indy4 whip. Anyone done it yet? Do I have to take the shellac off first? Any tips? Recommendations?
Thanks,
Scott

I haven’t done it and I am not really recommending doing it, but If I where to, I would probably rub the knots down really well with a bit of the same type of alcohol used to dissolve the shellac originally, wipe it down with a damp cloth and let it dry. Then lightly use a black rub on leather dye and following the product directions as closely as possible, apply it carefully directly to the knot with something like a cotton ball or swab, Allowing it to dry, Then reseal it with a new covering of leather shellac.
Keep in mind, Sometimes when you try to redeye leather, especially commercially dyed or heavily oiled leather, the new dye doesn’t take as well and it can rub off in my hand while using the whip even after its been sealed so. It’s one of those do at your own risk things.
