Wested Raiders OTR Dark Brown Lamb - now what?

Well, I got my first jacket ... or is it yet?

Having read tons of threads here but having never even touched an Indy jacket, I was a little wary of asking for custom features features, I went ahead and ordered a Wested off-the-rack 42R Raiders Dark Brown Lamb.

Now I'm not as fit and young as most I see on COW so I can't expect to look like Holt (though I've tried in one of the shots to get the hand thing right! just joking ...).

But I am wondering whether a higher yoke would lessen the "batwings". I saw another thread that had a Wested OTR with a higher yoke but I think it may have been an "80s cut" ROLA done by the Wested guys in India.

Again, perhaps this is just a function of having a bit of a gut ...

I may be wearing a sweater under this, too.

Sleeves too long? Jacket too long, too short? Collar too big?

Lose the goatee?

I absolutley love it.

I would change those Drings into rectangulars for more SA look.

and as for the hands..yeah I see that you are trying..a little more practice and your good to go my firend!

Looks fantastic. You made a very good choice!
I like the collar and pockets a lot; they're the parts I focus on, get those wrong and everything looks off. But these look perfect!

Thanks, Holt. I know I didn't get the rounded pocket flaps and am still feeling a little conscious of the batwings, but then again, the hat crown felt too high at the start, too.

And I'll keep working on the hands.

if this is your first then of course the'batwings' will feel od...

I remember when I got my first wested..you wouldnt believe how much I hated these darn things on the side....but you get use to it..and suddenly you wont notice them anymore

Yes, I have a link from another thread for where to get some rectangular "rings". It sure seems odd though that you can't find three-bar buckles like seen on trench coats, or on Todds jackets.

Wait a minute, on that other thread's link page they show some three-bar sliders. Would any of these work? Would they look better?

I guess the difficulty would be getting the existing straps through them, as one of the straps is supposed to be wrapped around the center bar, and the rectangular rings say they're unwelded and they look like they're not split so you could open them ...

I think you look great! Might try loosening the side straps a little see if that stops the open pleat, but it isn't so bad. The action pleats do take a while to get used to.

Otherwise it looks a great fit, and for an OTR! Sleeves usually will ride up a little so the 1/2 inch that they feel like they are too long to you now should disappear. The length looks perfect too.

Love the fit, hope my first fits half that well! If I remember correctly... there were plenty of scenes in which Harrison's sleeves went at least to the first joint on his thumb so I wouldn't worry about the length;)

You know what I think would make for a good lighting for a 'raven's bar' light on the jackets? Just one of those fake fireplaces- they give off that orange-ish, low, natural light that flickers around the room. Just a thought, if anyone by some chance actually has one! Well...that or a real fireplace.

You have a really nice look there lpa53! Nice jacket, the lamb looks great, and the hat fits you well.

The sleeves on my new Novapelle fit me in a similar manner, although not quite as long. They extend to where my thumb meets my hand. To me it looks and feels too long and I was going to look into having them shortened by an inch. But if this is the proper fit then perhaps I'll see what happens over the next couple of months of wear. What do you guys think?

The hat is my first, a Keppler. I measure 22" and got a size 7.
It was perfect right out of the box and Lee was great to work with.

(I just got a grey Fed IV today and will posts shots in that thread.)

Hey, man, your jacket and hat look great. The thing we have to get used-to is the jacket fit. I know you were thinking 'It's too big', but this is how the jacket is worn. By 'batwings' I guess you mean how the back pleats stick out - this will also be a non-issue. Yes, the collars are huge, but they look 'right'. You see, I'm your same weight (now... I was 200) but compressed into a 5'-7" height. The Wested 'Authentic Lambskin' Raiders I have is marked '42' also. Since losing the weight, I have been going around and around on getting a different jacket. Obviously, it now fits even looser than before, but somehow I'm getting used to it.

So, there's MY opinion on the topic at hand. You'll also find the so called 'bat wing' effect eventually relaxes with wear and goes pretty much away, so don't let first impressions throw you. It will be JUST perfect after a bit of regular wear.

Thanks all for the positive comments. Coming from the experts it means a lot. When debating the Todds/Wested issue, I specifically remember someone saying "Listen to Michaelson!" and I'm glad I did!

I've also seen other posts with folks having trouble with Wested, especially when they order a custom (busy time of year, though) and I'm glad I went with an OTR and had such good luck. Wested, and Gemma in particular, were great to deal with - very patient with my many questions.

I didn't see Michaelson's reply saying "don't change a thing" until this morning and ...

I was thinking last night (maybe too hard) that I'd like to see the pocket snaps "pop" a bit more than they did (could barely see they were there) and, although this may have happened naturally through wear, I tried something overnight and got this:

Too much? Did I screw it up?

(I will be changing the D-rings out and am working on that.)

I only got into the Indy gear thing about 2 years ago, even though I've always loved the character.

The trouble with the jackets, is, well, it's an addiction. So bad, in fact, that we should probably have an Indy Anonymous or something. I now have 2 jackets, with 1 on the way. I'm on my 2nd pair of Aldens, I've got way too many hats, shirts, pants...blah...blah...blah.

Thanks 007. I can already feel the pull and have guilt pangs about getting the hat and jacket, especially with my retirement accounts in the tank!
