On Wested's they are a pocket made into the liner directly behind the pocket. ie there is no extra vertical slit an inch away from the pocket like some modern A-2's have.
Another vendor's doesn't have the pocket going into the liner, just behind the main pocket so it might be a bit shallower.
Not to mention he uses those pockets in the Raven bar. And doesn't he carry a lighter in his left pocket in LC (pretty sure it's his handwarmer pocket, but you can doublecheck)?
I don't quite understand the question. By separate, do you mean going into the lining as opposed to between the cargo pockets and the body of the jacket?

so on a Wested it goes through the body of the jacket and not just behind the patch pocket?

how is it on the NH jacket?
Now, that I do not know... I didn't think of putting my hands in the handwarmers on the NH, they are really small.

Yeah (I think so)
what do you mean by going into the lining? is there an enclosure?
Yes, Henry Sr. grabs Indy's lighter from Indy's handwarmer pocket in LC, but Indy stuffs the cloth that he wrapped the Sankara stone in his cargo pocket in TOD.
