Christy's Adventurer after five months

Here are a few photos of my Christy's in Sable which I bought in early June. These are from our trip to Disneyland in early October, so my son is in a lot of them. I just saw a bunch of nice shots of the Christy's so I thought I'd share.

exhausted after a long drive...but the hat still looks good.

not a lot of taper showing here, that's for sure.

my favorite shot of the Christy's color.

my son was not too sure about the witch.

Haven't seen any taper, really, and it has been in the rain twice.

Thanks, Oak! I'm honored. you are a fine fine hatmaker. Every one of your hats I've seen really blow me away. If my wife wasn't still looking at me sideways every time I say "Adventurebilt" (I ordered one in May), I would have already ordered one of yours.

I own a LOT of vintage fedoras, so my wife is not too keen on new ones showing up.

especially brown ones.

Christy's bow is no great shakes. I'm only just getting over the lousy tacking of the ribbon.

These are the best photos I could find.

possible cheat in regards to taper: I put a piece of reasonably inflexible foam under the sweatband in the back to sort of simulate a long oval. The hat looks less tapered on my head than it does off.

I forgot to mention: no Raiders turn on this hat.

Havershaw, is this the wool or the fur felt hat?? I am liking it; it really has a great TOD look, IMO...

Thanks for posting, the hat looks GREAT ! It screams Indy! thanks for posting wear it in pride ! The bow work may not be great but still its one of the Most SA indy replica's out there!

Oak, I did already pay in full for a hat from Steve this May right before the price increase. I've dealt with Steve before with vintage hats, and he is a true gentleman and he really knows his felt.

This is the fur felt.

I think it has a cool TOD look...when the TOD hat is looking cool, that is - which is kind of every other scene...

Steve is a true gentleman alright. You will just love his hat. The AB and ABD are the most SA Indy hat there is.

I never thought I'd say this but I think the Christy's is one of the better Indy hats on the market after seeing these pictures. Wow...

That looks like some uber smooth felt...and perfect amount of flange on the brim too...

Well dressed kid btw. Han Solo and a newsboy cap, doesn't get much better than that.

Yes ! And I never thought it would make such an accurate CS replica like in the pics either !!!

I've been thinking about modifying the bow on one of these to a more accurate raiders version. I think it woulld do it so much more good.

I fussed with the bow on one of my hats once.
Then I took it to a pro.
I am not skilled with ribbon, I've discovered. I do think often about sending this hat to Steve or Oak to have them redo the ribbon and bow on it. I have no beef with the ribbon itself, but its tacking and bow leave a lot to be desired.

I, too, find it to be a pretty good CS hat as well (my favorite crown of the Indy series) - that's sort of what I went after. I took some pics of my new Todd's jacket today wearing the hat, so I'm stealing some of those photos to add to this thread - because the hat really looks great in them!

I really dig the felt on this hat, and I too am a fan of its brim flange. I didn't do anything to the brim - that's just how it arrived. I bashed the hat in about four seconds when I took it out of the box as you see it now.

My son is indeed a snappy dresser. He's a big big SW and Indy fan.
And thanks again for the props on the specs. I bought about 20 pair of vintage frames on eBay and this was the only one that really suited my face. They all looked really similar in the auctions but when they arrived they just didn't look right on my face. Until this pair, that is.
