Just got a Wested special offer washed goat LC...

I know, this thread is useless without pics, but I don't have a digital camera, so sorry

I have to say that for anyone who isn't totally obsessed with screen accuracy (no offense to anyone here that is), this is an amazing jacket. It came with sliders on the straps, which aren't SA for an LC, but are much better for wearability since they don't slip. The washed goat is very soft and has that matte look, which makes it look more like the real LC jacket without any distressing needed. It is also quite warm, as I wore it to class this morning (i'm in college). The temperature was in the 30s, and I was very comfortable in it. The jacket fits very well for an OTR, and the only thing I can gripe about is the sleeves could be a tad longer, but that's my fault since my arms are a little too long, and not the jacket's. The sleeves go down to just below my wrists in a resting position, so it isn't anything to get to angry about.

For my first leather jacket, I have to say that it has surpassed my expectations. I absolutely love it and will be wearing it for years to come. For the more 'casual' people here that may not have the money to pay for a custom or do not necessarily care about total screen accuracy, this is a great jacket. Even with the innacuracies to the movie jacket in LC, it would take a hardcore fan to see that it isn't right on. Thank you Peter, and great work!

And one question for people who have experience with jackets: Should I take mine out for a walk in the rain to get it a little wet? How will the washed goat respond to getting wet?

Best jacket out there!

I wear mine all the time.

Yes, get it a little wet and wear it while it dries. Then I'd certainly put a coat of leather cream on it as I feel this hide really needs the extra moisture when you first get it.
The bit of rain will bring out some extra character and then the cream will protect it and keep it soft.

By the way, I used the Pecards Leather Care Lotion, not the Leather Dressing, on this one.

Raider S, why did you chose the leather care vs. leather dressing for the goat? Is it because the goat is a more coarse hide than the lamb?

Sorry for being a total noob here, but what is the difference between the two?

And speaking of Pecards, anyone know hwere I can find it? I know it is on the internet, but it would be easier for me to take a 5 minute drive to a store in my town to get it. Anyone know of any major store chains that carry it?

A lamb is a young sheep and its wool is used to make textiles. A goat has pointy horns and will often eat your shirt tails if you stand too close.

I spent a little time on the phone with the Pecards people and they explained how the lotion was a good choice for distressed leathers and leathers with a more suede-like finish. It won't darken the leather as much as the dressing and will maintain the original texture.

This was when I first got my vintage cow from USW and wanted to protect the leather (it felt a bit dry as do other pre-distressed hides) yet keep all of the scuffs and scrapes and nice coloration.

Maybe it has something to do with the leathers ability to "drink" the stuff. I know when I first applied it to my washed goat you could almost hear it gurgling it down!

I use the dressing on my smooth finish leathers and my understanding (someone please correct me) is the lotion does not contain the beeswax.
