wested reenforcement

Post by jacksdad »

Hi all, a few weeks back I metioned the pocket gremlin got to my wested, I've noticed a few more loose threads, that might need attending. My question is,if I take it to my tailor, can you do the x-box stitiching on the straps on a already made jacket and the other question is, if you were to add more reenforcement to the stiching where would you add it, I would like to do that but don't want to get crazy or ruin the jacket. Thanks for the help.

if you're tailor is good, they will remove the lining prior to doing any work on the straps.....either that or the x reenforcement will be sewn through the lining. other places that i've seen reenforcement is on the corners of the pockets and the pocket flaps....that should be all you'll need.

I think having leather reinforcing on the other side of the strap mount would be a good feature to ask Peter to add to his jackets. I was going to statrt a post on this yesterday.

I don't think the x-box on the straps will really make a huge difference in strength. As long as that part is secure now, if it were mine I'd leave it be.

As far as other loose threads, seams, etc., I think it's too bad you have to have those looked at in such a new jacket. What I would do is take it to a tailor and ask their opinion if it actually needs any work. The tailor will have a good eye for these things and will probably give a better opinion than people who have not seen/held your jacket. Maybe it doesn't need anything.

But some photos would be nice so other people can compare their jackets.

No, what I mean is how do they reinforce it? I would like to see a chunck of leather (on the lining side) as a mount for the side straps for instance - as TN does with the CS jacket. Can this be done, so the straps don't tear out of the jacket?
