Another Dollar Store Revolver

Today I happened to be at a dollar store, and came across a Cowboy Gun set that included a plastic 'star' sheriff's badge, and what appeared to be a plastic .44 Magnum w' 6" barrel. A dollar and a quick hacksaw jobbie later, the barrel is now 4', with a slight sight (triangular, but soon will have the correct semi-circular front sight) and it looks, if I do say so myself, VERY cool as a replica S&W Raiders pistol! For a buck, no less!

It is 1:1 scale size, and fits great in the flap-holster. Again, I have no source to post pics, so you'll have to take my word, but I really must suggest a trip to a local $ store for those, like myself, who cannot get a hold of the real deal, or even blank firing replicas (Oh, Canadaaaaaaa!)

There are about a million and a half people out there willing to post pics of your stuff. You must post pics of your stuff. Especially that gun!! paid $6 for a toy gun Wed. and I think it's a bit smaller than the real deal, which kinda ticks me off . . .

well, I feel rather sheepish to ask anyone to post for me, but if anyone is willing, perhaps there should be a small section so someone like me without the resources, knows who is nice enuff/capable to offer such services, even if only temporary.

I won't have my digital camera back til Monday, anyway, but if by then anyone would like to host pics, lemme know and I'll gladly send a few.

hey, i found some of those guns at a dollar store too. i used a dremmel tool and repainted the grips with a brown sharpie. stroking the the downward direction, now it, at first glance, looks like wood wit grains! the only other diference i noticed was that it had a rear sight, which, if filed off, leaves and open look in to the gun(i tried it on one i broked the hammer off of, dropping it. may go back and buy several, since they are quite fragile and i need to do a better barrel job.

That sounds like the exact same gun I converted!
It's a white star with a red sticker that says SHERIFF, right?

What is left is to fix the sight and get a nice metal ring under there.

Yes, indeed I did. After I had shaped the grips wit a saw I used hot water from the tap to soften the plastic for the handles to go all the way around the grip. Maybe not the best looking job ever, but it works.

Yuppers! That's about it! I don't plan on making the mod's to the grips the way you did, and will change the sights over to the semi-circle, but that looks about right. Also, my grips/handle is (plastic) woodgrain, rather than all black (unless you painted yours black?)

Yes, I painted them black and plan on using sandpaper to get some of the original brown out in the daylight. I thought they were black you see but have been informed otherwise now.

I think the original brown is a bit light and guess this method will probably work to get it into a decent shade.

The top one also shows my pellet gun Browning substitute. The revolver is in need of another 1/4" taken off the barrel, and a semi-circular site added, which will come soon. Since the whole thing is hollow, I don't see taking off the sites on top of the frame, tho. Oh well...it still looks decent in the holster, and for Canada, is probably as good as it's gunna get!

Swindiana & Co.,

Are any of these toy guns available online by chance? I certainly can't carry a concealed weapon here in NJ and I'm sure even a blank firing would not go over well at the check-in at certain clubs. Blanks look all too real. I'd appreciate any help in my quest to find an affordable alternative.

My gun had been laying around a few years in my apartement before I realized it was the "dollar pistol" so I don't know what the package actually says or who is the manufacturer. The stamp on it said "Made in China" though. Maybe someone else with the packing left will be able to help you out. My best tip is to check out any toy store though, two different pistols of this kind have shown up so far on the forum.

Stupid California. I've been to a handfull of Dollar Stores, and the largest gun I can find is no bigger than my palm. <sigh>

I do have a .357 squirt gun, and a generic revolver that kind of shoots darts, but has a modern, comfort grip. Time to bust out the Krylon spray paint, and hope it works.

What are you folks using to replace the sights after you saw the barrell down? Are you finding the appropriate size and shape of plastic and just glueing it on? If so, where are you finding these little sights?

I found that same plastic gun at the dollar store and also converted it. I thought I was the only guy in the whole world to spend the time on a dollar store toy. It is nice because it seems full size. I also only paid one dollar but I paid a Canadian dollar so about 75 cents US. A real deal.

I have looked recently to get more of these dollar store beauties but it would seem they are no longer available. at least in my area. I think dollar stores must get old stock from places and once its gone its gone.
