Yep, this photo came up very frequently during the great grey/brown debates and still managed to get calls of the hat being one color or another. I go with what Speilberg said when Steve Delk officially inquired: "The hat was GREY!!!"

Dude, in all seriousness I, for one, do not know...
I only know that when I right click on the picture to save a copy, the name previously given to the jpg. is "harrison_carol".
So, maybe someone here on these boards knows the story behind this photo... but not THIS guy...
Sorry.

As I recall, it was just a 'photo op' for the daughter of a production assistant, and was posted on the internet years ago.

It contains some info about the plane as well.

And there we are. Easy as pie.
Sometimes all ya gotta do is ask.
Thank you both.

(And y'know, I should've guessed that Michaelson would be among the first to give enlightenment on this... in the relatively short time I've been visiting the boards I've learned time and time again: they didn't slap that "Knower of Things" title on him just for kicks!)

Yeah, I wish.

I would have been a bit shorter than that though as I was seven years old when the made Raiders. :)

i was watching the sea-clipper scene the other night and payed attention to the hat. from what i can see, the brim wasn't flanged.....just straight from the ironing board and onto ford's head. thats why it always looked so 'gagster' on him  i wonder if the washington hat had the same brim.

i wish the raiders hat wasn't flanged.....could've saved me a couple hundred bucks. them donuts are expensive. my kid calls it a hat "toilet seat"

Pardon me Indiana G but what does flanged mean? I couldn't find a good translation in Italian.

The flange is what's used to iron in the brim curl of the hat. Here's a flange:
