It's a well known Akubra hat.

Folks have modified a number of Akubra hats at one time or another, including the Bushman, Squatter, Campdraft, and Drover. In fact, I believe the Federation line came about after folks here experimented on the Campdraft and Bushman hats.

The main problem with the Squatter is that the crown is too low. However, if you're one of those people who only look good in a low crowned hat, a quick brim trim will result in a sort of mini-Federation.

Everythingaustralian.com made the same claim 4 years ago when I bought a Squater from them. It's my guess the Squatter used to have the Bushman block, which is the Federation 4 block, only the Fed 4's block is a slightly longer oval. They mention here it's the original Akubra, which David Morgan claims is the Bushman. http://www.everythingaustralian.com.au/ ... .asp?id=20

Of the 30 or so hats at Everythingaustralian, this was the only one with "Superfine" felt- it was a very thin felt. It's not advertised as having that now. Had too much taper, I sold it to my boss for $20.
