How tight is your pinch?

Post by indyrocks »

For those of you with Raiders bashes, how tight to you typically pinch the pinch? I'm having a hard time getting the true bubbly heart shape because the top of the pinch won't get as tight as I'd like, but I've read that if I pinch it too much it will lead to tears or rips..I realize this depends on felt. I have a Magnoli HJ. So let's talk about rabbit for now. Thoughts?

Notice the top of the pinch...not REALLY staying put! :x

Looks great to me. If you really want to tighten up the pinch, though, just continue handling the hat. That normally does it.

Yea that's what I've pretty much been doing. Creasing it a bit more sharply like in the film.

The pinch in Raiders isn't as exaggerated as some of the razor sharp pinches you see around here. I think that it looks great the way it is. Just handle as normal.

I read on another site that the hat in Raiders was made from a much thinner felt, so the pinch could be tighter as a result.
I have a fedora from 1938, a Malloy, and the felt is much thinner than any contemporary hat I have.

Here's my Fed IV. I've been wearing it daily for about a month now.
