Wested Indy jacket, a done deal.

I was thinking now that Peter has gotten the black rectangular buckles that there is nothing more that Wested and Co. can do to improve on the Raiders jacket or the Indy jacket in general. In my eyes, the last detail has been achieved. The color is nailed which is very important. The newer (old) patterns are right on. All the I's are dotted and the T's are crossed. It's a done deal as far as I'm concerned. Through years of our impending guidance as a group and Peter's commitment and patience, he gives us the end result and it is good.
I love the cotton Wested too and can't wait to get one. I still have to break in my newest lambskin, but can't stop wearing my first. See, here in Chicago there is limited Wested weather. 2-4 months out of the year. That's all. I personally would love to see a winter Wested Indy jacket with a very thick liner and a thicker leather, or do they already have that? Never asked. A Wested I could wear in the winter would be great, I think. What do you guys think? I guess all you people who never get below 40 degrees don't have to reply.

We are lucky that Wested still listens to the little guys even after dealing with such large companies as they do. It is sad to see Noel go and Swales too, even if his attitude seemed on and off. Hopefully we'll see Wested around for a long time to come. I'm still not done with them yet.

Try a wested that'll be good in the same degrees CELSIUS! Then you have the good ol' Red Lake temperatures.

But I agree with you; what would be really, really nice would be to have a wested with, say, a zip out fleece liner or vest....it wouldn't be hard to do and you would have a good jacket for most of the year.

I think that's a great idea. A zip-out lining would be a great addition to the jacket for people who need something a bit warmer. I'd get one since it's been known to get down into the low 20's F during the wintertime.

Not to get off-topic, but in response to agent5's comment on the measurements, I ordered my Raider's jacket and gave Peter exact measurements from my Expedition collar and pockets. This past Spring we (Dakota Ellison, Indydawg, whipwarrior) compared the jacket to other current Wested offerings and, regarding those two parts, there was a bit of a difference between my jacket and the others.

I'm not knocking Wested and I believe y'all know that. I love my jacket and wear it as often as I can. In a few years I will get another Wested. I am just sharing my experience about the pockets and collar.

So, yes! My vote is for a "winter Wested" to be added to the selection. I think it's an outstanding idea.

the Wested cow is a thick leather, and I have personally worn mine in -20 Celsius with just a cotton button-down underneath. I wasn't 'toasty', but it was warm enuff to get around in. Don't think I'd wear it skiing, but just to go to work, or shopping it was fine.

Joe, see if you can't talk to Indydawg and try to set up another Athens Summit, because I really had a lot of fun at the last one. We HAVE to do it again, sometime! In fact, I was thinking of an October Summit to commemorate the release of the DVDs. We could watch the movies while we discuss Gear!!!

I asked about a zip out liner in an email at one point. Peter said they couldn't do it. being that Texas sweather is very unpredictable and I travel alot to different climate I thought it would be a good thing to have. But no dice. I would have gladly paid extra for that. I have one in my wilson leather jacket and love it

I have often fantasized about an Indy jacket with a zip-out shearling liner, which I think might be different from a fleece liner? To me that would be the cat's miaow, but entire impractical. You'd have to have the jacket a size or two too large to accomodate the shearling, and once it was removed, you'd be swimming in the jacket. Wouldn't be the fitted Indy look at all.

As for a fleece lining, though, since Wested can't do it (and I can hardly blame them for not wanting to take on yet another headache), Gibson & Barnes apparently can. On page 31 of their catalog it says they can add a zip-out fleece vest of Nomex for an additional $88, which of course would make an already expensive jacket even more out of reach.

The thinsulate or Nomex lining DOES NOT apply to the Expedition jacket, or at least it didn't when I inquired about it several months ago. I had hoped for a cold weather Indy jacket, and posted so:

I thought at least the new Wested cotton indy jacket would have this option, BUT noooo... So I hardly see that anything will change as far as adding this option to a leather jacket in the foreseeable future from either Wested, or G&B.

That is what I was thining;

Mountain Equipment Co-op (www.mec.ca) sells fleece vests and coats that are very thin but VERY warm. One of them is far, far warmer then just a sweater and should fit under a Wested just like a sweater would.

I'll see if I can find the specific items on their website.
