Making a Fall for a nylon whip. Please advise.

Post by PropReplicator »

I was getting ready to put the fall on my nylon snakewhip, when I thought I would ask if there was a better way to do this. :) It's not about the fall hitch, which is the same as on a leather whip, but really about constructing the nylon fall itself.

They way I did my other nylon whip's fall was to use a 24" piece of paracord (with the white nylon still inside to keep the paracord rounded instead of flat, not to mention giving it some weight)

I doubled the last two inches of the cord over and tied it to itself with some sinew, leaving a loop in the end. Then I attached it to the thong with the usual fall hitch found on leather whips.

I'm worried about the thread or sinew coming loose and the fall slipping through the hitch. Is there a better way to get a loop in the end of the paracord fall to attach it to the thong?

Thanks!

well, the nylon fall on my nylon whip is just a iece of the nylon paracord, with the inside removed, just like the rest of the paracord.

Regards, Daryl.

Really? I was afraid to empty it because of the weight loss.

So the weight seems to be o.k. when it's empty? That would certainly make it easier to attach it to the thong.

Thanks for replying!

Can you tell at all how the loop or hole is formed in the cord in order to attach it to the thong?

I know this is old, but on the off chance you hadn't gotten this answered. the fall on my nylon whip is simply slid through the hitch and knotted so it can't slide back through. It's very easy to pull it out towards the handle of the whip. Mine is also a flattened piece of paracord.

Wayne, I did mine very similar to the way you did yours except that instead of using sinew I just simply tied a slip knot to form the loop. It looks similar to this:

But, I haven't really had a chance to test it out yet so I don't know how well it will hold. I'll let you know after a week of use whether or not my fall is still attached.
