anyone have a legit TOD?

Post by coronado3 »

I have yet to see a hat on the forum that has the correct looks of the TOD hat from the bridge scene (not that tiny tapered hat from the airplane scene). It has always been one of my fav Indy looks!

Anyone have one? if so, post some pics. :)

I've seen many great ones in the past. It's easy really. Just take any Stetson or HJ, wet the crown through, let dry then shape. Instant TOD.

should have one in a couple of weeks as i am waiting on some rabbit hat bodies. i'm gonna have a small degree of taper so i'm gonna fashion it more like the village hat than the bridge hat. my raiders block won't yield a good bridge hat as it's got too much beef in er. it may work but i built that block primarily for a raiders look. :)

that bridge hat was not like the stetsons with their short crown and small brim. It was much taller/straighter with a wider brim...

They even have quotes from Indygear about their Fedora

http://www.baronhats.com/hatsoff.htm#cliff

So "(BARON HAT'S FOUNDER, EDDIE BARON MADE THE ORIGINAL FEDORA FOR THE MOVIE)" had nothing to with Fedoras for the movie?

That's debatable. He made a hat for the film but there is no confirmation that it was actually used in film. For all we know, the hat may have never been worn by Ford or any stunt doubles. It could have been worn in a scene that was cut out. But as far as anyone can tell, the hats used in Temple where all HJs with a Stetson here or there, though I think a Stetson was only worn in the cockpit scene.

If you've never been to Baron Hats let me tell you thier Indy hats look horrible. The dimensions are completely off and the color of the felt and ribbon are far too light. Although I did find some SA grosgrain ribbon in thier stock. The sales person thought I was crazy when I said the ribbon was brown, but soon changed his mind when I held it next to thier black ribbon. I had them put it on my HJ for which they charged me $25.

I have a customer who asked me to make him a TOD hat. I'm not sure I can do it with the block I'm using but giving it a try. I'll post pics when I do. It's hard to find out any information ( specs) on both TOD and LC hats.
