What you can do with $15 Walmart pants.

Post by IndianaBogart »

For a couple of weeks I had been tossing around the idea of adding pocket flaps to a pair wrangler pants from walmart. So I got two pairs, one to wear and one for fabric, and thought that I would try my hand at sewing. Well then the idea hit me: my grandma sews, (AND SHE'S AN INDY FAN!) so I could ask her to help me. So anyway, this past weekend I was home from college and my grandma came over and helped me (o.k., she pretty much did everything, I just came up with the pattern) make and attach pocket flaps. And after about an hour, here's what we came up with: (enjoy ;-) )

I have a pair of these Wal-Mart Wrangler casual khakis, and for the money, they're not bad, a close hue from my perspective, light for summer, two pleats, but the back pockets are flapless. What to do if you don't have a Grandmother who is an Indy fan? ;-)

You could probably make them yourself. That's what I was planning on doing. (or was planning on trying to do) It would just take a lot longer without a sewing machine. But really I don't think it would be too difficult to do. I think the only difficult part would be attaching them. But I dunno. I've seen other people on here who have done it by hand. So it definitely can be done. It would just be time consuming.

I think Texan Scott was hinting for your grandmother to do it but was kidding as he had a wink. Could be some good cash for your grandmother.

Hope you took your grandma out for dinner afterwards - nice job she did! I've been
tossing around the idea of picking up an extra pair of close-enough pants to make my
own pocket flaps for a while now. I think I'll swing by the local wally-mart tommorrow
& see if they still got 'em in stock. Image
