Drape on Got vs Lamb

Post by lpa53 »

Within a maker's line, Wested for example, does the drape differ on a goat vs lamb jacket?

Depends on the individual leather. Some goat drapes more than some lamb and the opposite is true too.

Wested's washed goat drapes exactly like Wested's lamb in my opinion.
Wested's regular goat drapes fairly well but is somewhat stiffer.

Wested's regular goat doesn't crease or hold wrinkles much like lamb at all. It'll crease more than cow will when you bend your arm etc., but there won't be many "folds" and ripples.

I'm a big fan of Wested's goatskins, especially the batch Peter had a couple of years ago, but you will generally be able to distinguish whether a jacket is lamb or goat from the drape alone, in my experience.

Goat and lamb drape about the same in my opinion. And which lamb... the LC jacket drapes like cowhide in most of the movie.... but it is lamb.

Drape, as in drapes on a window. They hang a with a distinct kind of ripple effect, caused by their own weight, the thickness, stiffness, and how the rod holds them up. Clothing lays and hangs on a body, and is subject to much of the same influences. Thus, drape. Thick, stiff leathers don't drape the same way as Indy's jacket in the first three films. Compare it with the cowhide CS jacket, which looks very different on him.

I've seen some great drape on a goatskin, but as others have pointed out, the specific goat hide makes a difference. My US Wings goat drapes more like a cowhide. Now, knowing what Washed treatment does to a hide, I would imagine that Washed Goat would look awesome.
