Not through the jacket, but a good cut in a very thin hide is not a good thing.gwyddion wrote:strones, you cut through the jacket? like there is a hole in it now? with your nails?

Did I express myself incorrectly ?
It's just that I'm shock to see that he tears his jacket with just his nails which are not long at all. So it shows the leather is fragile.
Is it more comprehensible ?
Sorry english is not my mother tongue.

Just met Indiana G for the first time outside of work, he was wearing his washed goat and I have to say it was a thing of beauty.. It was hard to look him in the eye when talking, I think my eyes kept darting from his AB to his washed goat.. beautiful color! exactly how I picture a Raiders jacket to be.
Now I think instead of just saving up for a ToD jacket, I may have to save double!
come to think of it, I should have asked politely to try it on, and see how a 42 fits.. next time!

You bet they look nice! Great leather.
I want to second what Crismans observed about using leather cream and probably should've mentioned this sooner.
After I got my jacket rained on the first couple times and wore it as much as I could for several weeks, I applied leather cream (if you're using Pecard's this is the leather lotion in a bottle and not the leather dressing). I think it's needed to make the jacket 100%. It won't affect the character or the color but makes the leather feel healthier -- if that makes sense.
Tried to get a couple photos to show the true color and nature these have. The close-up of the sleeve shows some texture and how quickly the leather will get some wrinkles and character.

I put in an order for a Washed Lamb, and although I believe it will be a great jacket and perfect for those slightly colder days, I think I also want something more rugged. I am not sure if rugged is the right word, but I hope all of you will know what I mean.
Once my washed lamb jacket arrives, I might go ahead and order a washed goat. I want to be able to try on my washed lamb first to see how it fits and make any changes to my sizing if it is necessary.
Thanks for the pictures everyone, they have been helpful for me!

I wonder if any leather lotion will do - or maybe regular Pecards?crismans wrote:And I totally get what you mean by healthier but it is hard to explain. The leather is dry when you get it and the cream adds moisture.
I have a local leather shop that sells a range of care products, I'll have to ask what they recommend for jackets.
This jacket is trully beautiful, I can't wait to get mine. Gemma e-mail me today to tell me my jacket is in productionRaider S wrote:

I didn't have any Pecard's leather lotion on hand so I used a spray bottle of Lexol that I got from the auto parts store. It's worked well and hasn't hurt the look of the leather at all. So far I've used two bottles on the lamb and one on the goat (and the leather drank them in).whiskyman wrote:I wonder if any leather lotion will do - or maybe regular Pecards?crismans wrote:And I totally get what you mean by healthier but it is hard to explain. The goat is, well, goat, so it can go a while without the treatment (but I would treat it eventually as it really helps the "feel" of the leather. The washed lamb I'd treat out of the bag. It's a really beautiful hide but doesn't feel at all sturdy (the hide, not the jacket). The leather conditioner really seemed to have "toughened" up the hide. It's hard to describe what I mean but I relate it to those who have gotten their Todd's standard wet and talked about how the leather seems to have more bulk and feel tougher.
My washed goat just arrived!!!
First off, the fit is spot on. It's a standard off the peg Raiders size 40 but the length is just as long as my 42 ( I checked this with Peter on the phone before ordering), just not as wide - which is exactly what I was looking for.
Secondly I'l pleasantly surprised to see the yoke placed a good inch or so higher than the arm seam! Very Raiders looking and the first time I've had it on any of my Westeds.
As for the leather - very, very, pleasing indeed. It doesn't at all feel plasticy like my other goat Westeds. It feels like tough lamb if you can imagine such a thing. The texture and general feeling of the hide is simply wonderful.
But - the colour.... I can't get past the feeling that I'm wearing a black jacket.
I'll have to see how I like it when I try it outdoors.

Here are some pics - very hastily taken. If I get a chance to go out i'll take some better ones

I'm not sure people know their colors anymore!
Please, go to the store and take a look at a "black" jacket and compare to your new one. Then take another look at Raiders and tell me if you see a "brown" jacket.
I really don't think you are going to find a much nicer color out there than what you just recieved.

I've had a bit more time to get used to this jacket and I've been outside in it. It's not black- in fact I think the colour is fairly similar to the hh. Just compared to my regular goat it does seem very dark.
I think this might really be the best Raiders leather that wested has so far offered- I look forward to wearing it in and having it gain some character.

Would you mind posting those dimensions, please? I think I'm a 40 also, but the back length on those seem short compared to another jacket I have. I may have to go the custom route.whiskyman wrote:My washed goat just arrived!!!

can you post:
back length (base of collar to bottom of jacket)
shoulder (base of neck to shoulder seam)
sleeve (shoulder seam to cuff - on the outside, longer side of sleeve)
chest (armpit to armpit)
Thanks and congrats on a nice jacket!

Nice jacket, Whiskyman but have you noticed how high those pockets are placed compared to the movie jacket?whiskyman wrote:Here are some pics - very hastily taken. If I get a chance to go out i'll take some better ones

hmm, I emailed Wested asking for their measurements and now I'm even more confused.
Here's what I got back from Gemma for a 40 reg Special Offer Washed Goat:
Sleeve 25.5 inch's
Chest : 46
Back length : 26
Pocket size 7 inch's across by 8 inch's
I thought Westeds had 2 or 4 inches of movement room on their jackets (80s cut vs. standard) but this is 6 inches over on a 40 reg.

The measurement of 46" sounds odd to me, but I don't own a Wested. I wear a 40R and would never purchase a jacket with that chest measurement, because it would look to roomy. I have several leather jackets and the largest one, an A-2 style, measures almost 44" for the chest and that looks a little big.

Difference in ROLA Soft Goat and Washed Goat
What's the difference between the Special Offer Raiders ROLA Soft Goatskin http://www.ekmpowershop4.com/ekmps/shop ... -107-p.asp
and the 'NEW IN' Special Offer Raiders Jacket 'Washed Goat' http://www.ekmpowershop4.com/ekmps/shop ... -115-p.asp?
The first specifically mentions it's slimmer and has more tapered sleeves where the washed goat offering does not.
Both say they're imported. Both say they're Raiders. Pocket flaps look different. how many different people are working on these things? Seems like you never know what you'll get.
Kinda like a sheen myself ...

The uncertainty regarding Wested's given standard measurments is the reason I had Peter measure an actual jacket for me while still one the phone to me - and to put that actual jacket in a bag with my name on it!!
As for the differing measurements given by Gemma - maybe the washed goat Raiders and the washed goat LC have slightly different dimensions? They have both in stock.
In the meantime, since wearing this jacket for a week or two, I really love the leather. It is simply fantastic and not at all like regular goat hide. In terms of feel, it really could almost pass as a lamb - and yet it feels tougher than Wested's regular lamb.
But - it is very dark. So far, everyone I've asked has said it was a black jacket, or dark grey.
