Was the hat turned during the Idol Grab??

Post by indyrocks »

Ok friends, here I will re-hash the hash.

I have spent a few days reading over some old posts and there seems to be some different viewpoints on whether or not the hat was turned in the opening scenes of Raiders. I know I've seen Steve mention his opinion on the matter, but I forget what he thought and couldn't find that post. I've seen others say it's turned and others say it isn't. Especially since right as Indy and Sapito enter the cave you can tell it's a pretty new hat, for all intents and purposes, maybe that's why it doesn't seem like an exaggerated turn to me. But then again, what do I know? :-k

Can anyone shed some light??

As far as I know, the hat was not turned during the opening scenes outside the temple. It was turned for the idol grab sequence.

I think I agree Jack. As I watch the DVD you can definitely tell. Although I can't really tell one way or another during the opening scene while they're outside.

I don't have the DVD on right now, but if memory serves, the brim in the outside scenes is pretty even on both sides, and that's one giveaway that the hat is not turned. I've always liked that look myself, but most seem to favor the brim warp that goes along with the turn.

If you can get a clear side view that shows the bow of the ribbon is centered over Ford's ear, that is another way to tell if the hat is unturned. On hats that have the turn, the bow is mostly in front of his ear.
