last crusade jacket leather
I've been searching around for this...what type of leather was used for the last crusade film jacket? was it still lambskin or a type of cowhide?
Aye, what he said. Lamb all the way.
That doesn't mean that lamb is the absolute best choice for "the real world" although many will stand by it. I bought one of Wested's first horsehide Indy jackets several years ago, as I felt it was a closer match to what the Indy jacket would be made of back in the 30s, and some people thought I was kind of nuts... now horsehide is an extremely popular choice when people buy a Wested. It's all about whatever works best for you in the end

Ahhhh, washed goat....Indiana Strones wrote:PLEASE DON'T GO OFF TOPIC IN THIS THREAD FALCO!!!! :evil:IndyFalco wrote:Goat hide is also a very popular choice for an LC jacket. Very strong and durable.
But back on topic. The LC is also lamb, you can see in various shot where it flutters in the breeze in a way that other jackets don't.
But, for the look, the lighter coloured novapelle should work well. It is a heavier leather but quite a few people prefer that for the weighter feel.

Yes, but that text is referring to a scene from Raiders, not Last Crusade.Indiana Strones wrote:According to the main site:IndyFalco wrote:Question, being that the LC jacket is a lamb. Do you guys think that a lambskin could have withstood the beating it took during the tank scene where Indy gets pinned in between the tank & cliff without suffering any tearing/shredding?
Could a more durable hide been used?
During shooting, a Wilson’s jacket was used to outfit Terry Leonard for the truck dragging stunt. The Wilson’s jackets were heavier and had been made from “pre-distressed” leather. An added benefit to the Wilson jacket design for this scene was that there was no detailing to the back, i.e. no action pleat. Because of this it was thought that the jacket would fare better with Leonard being dragged on his back while under the truck.
I suppose it's possible they used a "stunt" jacket for the tank scene IndyFalco mentioned, but since Ford is just kinda hanging from the MkVII strap there's not much that would damage the jacket. The dirt being dumped on top of him is from the tank's gun barrel digging into the cliff above him (or a member of the crew off-camera with a shovel to create the illusion of such), not from Ford or the jacket rubbing against the cliff.

I've read how durable alot of the wested's are,my otr goat seems strong, If I had money to spend I would love to do a mythbusters type experiment and drag a dummy with all differnt hydes of jackets and see how they would look and what would be torn or not torn. I would bet there would be a surprise or two. What do you guys think or theorzie would happen? My thought to the tank dragging scene.
