I seem to think not. Fed's have never had that straight of a dome and that this one even has a little bit of reverse taper.

Also, the color (although, not that well represented here) has a lot of red in it.
Again, I don't think even the Fed Deluxes have that much.

I think you need to get your eyes checked. That is no Federation. It's definately an AB. Show me a Federation that looks like that and I'll dress as Belloq in his ceremonial garb for Halloween!

Yeah, I saw the show tonight and was going to post this! I'd say it's an AB maybe an AB Deluxe.

Looks great! My AB doesn't look like that.

He's got a crummy bag strap though.

..(Spoilers!) I'm going to tear a phone book in half! This episode revealed the secret. (and no, not along the binding, and no preperation..) Also, they demonstrated that simply interleaving 2 phone books together, no glue, it took 8,000 lbs to pull them apart- weird but true.. Two cars couldn't seperate them, they had to use two TANKS to do it. - Meanwhile Adam is tearing piles of phone books in half by hand. The hat was only worn for a few seconds in a seperate spot where Adam says to visit Mythbusters.com. There was only this head-on view.

The color is all off. You simply cannot compare the felt, even with the uber low-res photo of Adam. However, Holt's Federation is definately the best one I've ever seen...sorry, no dress.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like it. Not only does it look huge on his head, it doesn't look "natural" on him, very forced looking.

I did catch that last night too- which is unusual, as rarely watch TV at all...

The hat looked good to me; however I would not even venture a gues as to the maker based on a TV shot...

It is a tall, square crown hat for sure, so that certainly narrows it down a bit...

I saw it in HD and from the photo of the screen I'd guess Dalexs may have too. (Looks like an LCD panel?) Anyway, the felt looks nice. It's not Fed Deluxe felt. It's very AB looking.

Well, Adam did confirm at one point (elsewhere) that he ordered an AB, and we also heard that he had filmed an episode wearing it. This clip was likely filmed at that time. The moment I saw it, I knew it could be nothing else.

I think it does look strange on him, but it's a new style for him, and it looks like the hat was tilted forward against the wind, making the crown look unusually high.

At any rate; Adam, if you're reading - Nice Hat! Wear it. A lot.

Actaully, those two shots look just like MY AB. I also watched it in HD. His hat and mine both look remarkably like the hat from the wedding scene in KotCS.

There an easy way to tell if it's a AB or akubra. Do we have a shot of the bow?

No, during that scene he didn't turn his head in a direction that would allow that, and that's the only time he was wearing it in this episode. I'm sure it'll turn up again.

I'm almost positive it's an AB, for the simple reason (as Chewbacca Jones stated in his post) Adam mentioned on another forum that he had ordered an AB for himself. Besides, if you were making Mythbusters money would you settle for a Fed?

Don't get me wrong, I love my Fed IV. But, quite honestly, if money and wait times were not an issue I think almost every member here would own an AB Fedora.

I don't want to turn this into a "which hat is better" thread. I'm just going to say "don't knock it till you try it." I don't think you understand becuase you've probably never seen, held, or worn an AB. Nothing wrong with a Federation, but your comparing apples and oranges, if I can commandeer Michaelson's favorite quote.

Neither do I.
In fact the "apples & oranges" is a good analogy.
Some people prefer apples, others oranges. Both have there own unique texture and taste.

Why does a person prefer one over the other??...
They just do.

Except that he did always have a preference for Akubra's in the past! 8)
Isn't RPF the other forum he's on? Why doesn;t someone here PM him and just ask. I made this a public thread on purpose!

If I may, let me interject:
I think it's a "good" hat, either way. Why? Because he's wearing a fedora in the first place. That puts him at the "grown-up table" to begin with. Hats of that ilk are sorely lacking in the general populace.
Secondly, and exclusive to this forum ( and it's kin ), IT'S AN INDY STYLE HAT! Come on! How many other people are wearing them on TV? Without any sense of irony?
Finally, not having seen any other views ( I saw the broadcast ), I wonder if it doesn't have a diamond crease in the top giving the perception of the reverse taper.

I think that is probable. His Bushmen don't reverse taper, and those are straight sided hats, virtually the same as Fed 4s blockwise. I've seen him wear those with both a center dent and a teardrop. Or, his top dent is completely popped up in back..Or, it's a very round hat on a long head? I ask customers to measure their head width, and I make a custom block for each hat based on it. (Drop me a pm Adam, I'll make you a Winston360, and hand deliver it to Mythbusters HQ, - it's a 20 minute drive.)

It is an AB.....100%. I know the board member who sold it to him and Adam is a member of the RPF. So.......Whoever thought it was a fed IV.....sorry to burst your bubble. The person who sold him the AB can post here if he chooses.
