Thinking about LIGHTLY distressing my Todds standard....

Ok, at first I just wanted to let my jacket age naturally, however, as of late (really for about the last hour), I've started entertaining the idea of LIGHTLY distressing it. Just enough to make it not look new. What do I do? Where do I start? New to jacket distressing. Where do I start?

the thing is...at first when I got into this hobby I only wanted to sandpaper and give the jackets a alchol wash to look like Indy....today, I cant bare the thought of distressing it fake with sandpaper and alchohol...

if you just want to get the shine of and get a more lived in look..

give the jacket a hot water treatment.

it takes most of the shine away and it gives really nice wrinkles all over and bunched up sleeves.

you have to wear it though while wet..

but that gives the real ''indy look''

I'd go all nautral,that's what I'm doing with my wested goat. water does take the shine off,mine's gotten wet from rain and I can see a diffference.good luck

jacksdad, I have stood outside in downpours with my jacket on. It has helped some and I do like the look of it. I was just thinking about adding to that a little more. The water treatment does sound good though.

Holt, by the way, will the hot water treatment shrink my jacket at all?

ohh dont ask me about shrinking..I am not the man to answer that...I am in search for some answers my self.

but I have had no shrinking effect while showering the jacket.t gets wet and I wear it so it airdryes.it comforts to you body frame and gives a real lived in look.

maby the jackets I have treated have not shrunk because I did not soak them thru out.just a really hot shower on the surface.

zipp the jacket up and hang it on a hanger in the shower and just blast away with the hot water..

I soaked the horsehide thru out and it did not shrink at all. not a mm even.

but then again this was one of the tuffest leathers around..thats why I tried it..

id say just shower it without getting it soaked and wear it..

I have done this to one of my first lamnskins and no ill effect at all.no shrinking.just pure and awesome Indy looking jacket..

Holt is right, you can savely shower your lambskin. I also zipped it up and only showered the surface, without it getting soaked through and through. However, unlike Holt, I bunched up the jacket and threw it in a corner to dry overnight.

Yeah that's me. Well, not full gear, just gym shorts and a leather jacket. And my mom gave me a look that basically said "we need to put you away somewhere." But oh well, the jacket looks better ay least.

I don't think temperature matters much, but using the shower is much more precise for places like under the collar and pocket flaps.

Ahh ok, that makes sense. I was just asking because I know that temperature can affect some fabrics when washing and such.

Seeing as I live in Vancouver I have no need to throw my jacket in the shower we get more than enough rain here to aid in natural distressing.

All I can say is: be glad that you guys get lots of rain. We're pretty much bone-dry here in the southeastern US.

I rubbed alcohol on my TODD's to remove the shine from it.
It's very simple. Alcohol + Rag + Rubbing over jacket = Awesome Results

heeheehee... It'll remove the new look for sure. It wont do any damage to the jacket either. In terms of how much force do you need for rubbing the alcohol, not much. Just put enough force to sink the alcohol deep.

Now if distressing is something you want to go for, Todd's standard's uses a very odd thin leather. Plastic-ish, feels almost like a synthetic leather, if you know what I mean, so trying to allow that jacket to naturally distress is something that will be kind of difficult to do because that leather doesn't have texture qualities of a ........ more appropriate leather.

In my opinion artificial distressing is the best for a TODD's.
Use sand paper on the pockets, knifes for the edges, and a good ol' drag through your local canyon to get in those great adventure scars.
