G&B/US Wings
Yesterday I had access to an old US Wings goatskin jacket I used to own. Here are some reference pictures of it shown next to a Gibson & Barnes Expedition. This is strictly for those that want to see a side-by-side comparison. The Wings is a bigger jacket. It’s a 2XL. The G&B is a 44. Please keep this in mind as far as the details go. Also the lining on the Wings jacket was replaced, so it’s non-standard. Enjoy

IIRC, from the thread where Rundquist had posted the pics originally, it was the "regular" seal brown.TheMechanic wrote:What color is that G&B???
I like that. In fact I wish mine was that color.
Thanks.
G&B describes the "regular" seal color as milk chocolate, compared to the "dark chocolate" of their dark seal.

Great looking jackets Rundquist! Did your Wings jacket have the 50/50 cotton/poly lining, or something else? What is the lining now?
Your post illustrates to me why so many of us have so many jackets from different vendors. Subtle differences, great craftsmanship. Who could possibly settle for just one? Or in my case three?
Opps, make that four.
So far.

Man, I wish the ladies over at MY sewing shop would take lessons from YOUR tailor. I need a lining changed out of my VIP, and they shied away from the job.Rundquist wrote:Yeah I had a tailor switch it out. She did a great job (no problems) and it didn't cost that much as I remember. Cheers

Of all the Indiana Jones jackets that I’ve ever had, this Wings is the one that I felt that I’d never given a fair shake to (even though it's 7 or 8 years old, it's practically brand new). It was the first jacket that I bought after finding this site. Admittedly, I wasn’t crazy about the original lining material, which I really don’t think they use anymore (unless maybe it’s an “oldstock” jacket). Also, to be fair, some people would probably not have a problem with it. My dad has one and it doesn’t bother him. Anyway, I switched out the lining. It was a very easy operation and the result was seamless. Michaelson, maybe you might try to have somebody else look at it. I would hesitate to say exactly what the material is. It just seemed much like a smooth cloth that other jackets have linings made from.
By the time I got that Wings jacket the way I wanted it, I had a full-blown case of the fever. I bought 2 Westeds. Then I was onto G&B. I gave the Wings to a family member. I could still wear and evaluate it today, except that it’s too big a jacket for me these days. I’ve sort of retired from buying & trying Indy jackets at this point (take that with a grain of salt). I’ve been afraid to visit Tony Nowak, even though he’s only ten minutes away from me. I’m not really a “LC/CS” man at all. I’m also not a big fan of pre-distressed leather. However, if the rumors are true that he may offer a Raiders jacket, curiosity would get the better of me and I’d at least have to see it. Even though I’m not really a fan aesthetically of his CS jacket, you can tell it’s got super quality. Cheers

That's strange. I had the lining of my USW goat changed for black cotton lining with no problem what so ever. The tailor did a really good job, but they do specialise in leather garments.Michaelson wrote:Man, I wish the ladies over at MY sewing shop would take lessons from YOUR tailor. I may have to go back and talk to the head of the shop. What I'm hearing here and what I was told aren't lining up right.
I have a feeling the young lady just didn't have the technical skills required, as I've NEVER had a problem before with the shop.
I'll take another stab at it. Thanks!
