Little Oak pulls off the look better than you do John. I bet everyone will get a real kick out of his gear at the party. And even though it is a kids size hat, it is beautiful. You do great work and I can't wait for my Penman. All you have to do now is teach him how to string together a underhand crack, forward crack and circus crack and he is golden.

Those shoes are not SA  . He definately looks like Indy. I'm glad you like the Little Oak nick-name. Your boy has a good taste in beverages by the way. I can see a can of A&W Rootbeer in the last photo. The only carbonated soda better than Rootbeer is Cream Soda, in my humble opinion.

When it comes to carbonated drinks, I'm right there with you. Rootbeer, Creme Soda, and I'll add Sasparilla. But just get me away from the kids, or when I think my Marion's been blown up, then it's whiskey, straight up.

Here's an inside shot, but I'd love to get something "out in the field" when the weather gets a little nicer in the desert.

Man, there is some great gear on display in this thread.

OK, my pics are slightly outdated (2007), but the best and only's in full gear, I'm afraid.

The first was taken by Gater, on Curator Rick's vast property at the Summit.
Image

This one was taken by Canyon at the same Summit. Please forgive the look on my face. It was about 110 degrees F in the sun that day.

And, from "way back" 2006...

That's part of the joy of attending the Finger Lakes Summits, my friend. Curator Rick had the pedestal made, but he and his daughter created the rest. It's set up each year at the summit.

And Chewie, it wasn't THAT hot... well, with the leather jacket and beaver fedora, maybe.

Sometimes I just wish I lived in the U.S. or even better: had enough money to buy a private jet to fly me to those summits

Remember, Bink. That picture wasn't this year, it was the year before, when the Summit fell in the middle of that August heat wave. Several people nearly fainted that weekend. In fact, shortly after Canyon took that photo she had to go back to her hotel to get out of the heat!

So, with the fedora and jacket, it might have been 120 degrees! The upside is, Rick has lots of shade on his property! I seem to recall you stayed in it that day. Woos. :P

"close enough"

Post by Switch625 »

Here's my newly completed "close enough" Indy gear.

Image

I'll start at the top and work my way down:

Fedora: Akubra Federation IV
Leather Jacket: Wested lamb (courtesy of fellow board member TCS)
Shirt: Cabela's Safari shirt
Pants: Lee khakis in "twig" color
Web belt: just some web belt I found at Kohls
Gun belt and whip holder: Costumebase from that auction site
Bag: Costumebase from that auction site
Bag strap: Todd's
Holster: got it off that auction site (not really happy with it - needs to be re-dyed)
Gun: plastic toy gun from a dollar store with swivel lanyard ring from eGunparts
Whip: got it off that auction site (good enough for now)
Shoes: Work America 6" work boot

Hope you all like it as much as I do! I still intend to upgrade the whip, maybe with Todd's prop whip, and the web belt but I'm not in too much of a hurry.

The hat and jacket are my favorite parts - they're so pretty! Can't wait for it to cool off here in Texas so I can wear the jacket out.

Oops. I thought it would be at least a few more days before you noticed.

Thanks! I really like how it all came together, especially the pants. In the other thread, others said they're too brown, but I hope people can see in this photo what I see.

I think people underestimate how brown the Indy pants should be. Plus, the light Cabelas shirt makes the pants look darker. I bet that a more screen accurate shirt color would make the pants look lighter. Still, I stand by that shirt as the best close-enough on the market.

Agreed. I think most Indy pants look too light. To me, they have always seemed to be kind of a lighter milk chocolate color. Then again, because of lighting, the color of the pants change in just about every scene. For example, in the psychic interrogation scene of KOTCS, the pants looked practically straight up brown. It really all goes back to personal taste and which shot of which movie we think best represents the Indy look. For me, I wanted something off the rack but wasn't the typical tan khaki pants.

I took these pictures this morning with my camcorder of my current gear.
The Jacket is a Wester "Raiders" off-the-rack.
The hat is an Akruba Adventurer
Whip is a new Joe Strain 8' Indy, 12 plait Kangaroo that arrived in August.
Boots are Aldens 405's.
Shirt is from What Price Glory
The whip holder and belt are from Todds.

Next up is an MK7 bag and strap and a Gun belt. I'll also consider some SA pants perhaps in 2009 but for now the Dockers look good enough for me.
Enjoy the pictures.

I think "Part-time" is the classic pose to duplicate from the new film. This is me wearing three pounds of fuller's earth on my jacket and hat.
