A pair of Todds shirts have ben ordered...

Post by JimL »

well, back-ordered actually.

I called again today, and it sems they will be available the middle of next month (August) but wo knows.

So I don't forget, I sent my payment today.

So I don't end up with the wrong size, I ordered a large (which is supposed to fit me perfectly) and an X-Large in case it doesn't.

So, once I get them (don't hold your breath!), I will either send one back, or have it available for purchase here.

If I keep the XL I will very likely have it altered for the 'fitted' fit.

I just don't want to wait until they come in an find out I can't get one... I think Mechanic got burned this way... :?

Why not just order a Magnoli and get a custom shirt that will fit you perfectly the first time?

well, from talking to Todd, and another member, it seems the large will fit perfectly.

BUT, I know that Todd is changing the fabric, so that may affect the shrinkage. I plan to wear and wash the shirt, so this is a concern for me...

if the large seems too close, I will either use the XL as is, or have it taken in as needed for the tailored fit.

I was also considering those tailored shirts from eBay, but this seemed like a better idea to me...

UPDATE:

I got the large and Xl shirts from Todd last week.

The large fits SO nice! BUT the sleeves are about 2 inches too short. Neck is great and the body is great (for me at least). If you are a 44 short it should fit well (but SNUG). 42 regular is probably how this is cut; perhaps 42 short.

Shirt tails are WAY too short!

So I kept the XL. The body is a BIT baggy, but not horrible. I washed it, and the sleeve length is acceptable (but right at the limit). Collar is big, but will always be open. Even so, I prefer the collar to fit properly. No fix for that on this shirt... Collar is around 17-18 inch I guess...

I may have shrinked it a tiny bit in the wash/dry. The Large would have no longer fit with any shrinkage (it's THAT perfect for me), and the sleeves were way too short. 2 more inches on the sleeve and 2-4 inches on the tails would make the large perfect (with the caveat that it might shrink to the too small region for me).

So, the plan now is to have the XL taken in at the sides to get a slimmer fit, although if you tuck in the back of the shirt and have all the 'extra' material in the rear, it looks quite good. Under a jacket, noone knows...

Also, I wanted to mention the cuf diameter is MUCH wider on the XL versus the L. The L cuffs are perfect for me; the XL ones are HUGE! I will see about taking those in as well, but they will still be a bit large...

I hope this helps somone out!

PS I am 43.5 chest, 15-1/2 X 35.5 shirt size... (give or take)

One reason may be that he doesn't offer the right material, it's too thick and in that I'm comparing it to a Noel Howard/MBA shirt. Some don't care, some do.

Congrats on the shirt J!M, and thank for the size details. If I were to do the alteration on the XL that you're going to, I don't think I'd taper it quite as much through the middle regon and then flare it back out so much at the bottom like Todd has his designed. To me it's cut a little too much like my wife's shirts (though I still love mine). The MBA one I have is not done this way as much and it still comes across as slimming. But either way please show us pics when it's all done.

The large has the proper tapered cut (I have several dress shirts cut this way and I like them) but I know what you mean about women's shirts. They are cut in at the waist, and flare at the hip, to fit a woman's curves.

These shirts should not be cut that way (I did not look that closely at the large) and should taper in and then remain straight to the tails.

On the XL and XXL the shirt has NO taper, so it is very baggy around the waist. I want that to diaasppear on this shirt...

I may go with a Wested shirt later- Peter has the original one now, so with his custom skills, correct fabric and willingness to alter it, I think that is the best custom choice right now. In the mean time, this will work for October for me! :D
