for my sectond whip i decided to do something a little simpler then a 4 1/2 foot bullwhip. I believe that this whip reall shows what good work i can do. The taper in my opinion is very good compared to my first whip. The handle plaiting is very tight and there are no squishy parts on the entire whip. I looked and looked but i could not find 1 gap in the Plaiting.
The only con though is that it looks a little flat on on side so i probaly could have used a bigger core. The whip is a basic 4 plait stock whip just like described in ron edwards book. I bought the cowhide from Scott martin of Martin Whips Aust. I used a rolled core for the center of the whip and i tied the keeper on with waxed artifical sinew. comments and questions are

sorry for the complications... Jim it handles great! it makes a nice little pop, i just have to get used to how it reacts to my cracks cause it is much diffrent from a bullwhip. The knot on the end of the handle is a dog knot. It uses the ends of the 4 strands I used to make a knot at the end of the whip, its farily easy. Jim you would you happen to make this whip by any chance? it looks just like the ones you make. The ugly duckling?

I've never tried making a stockwhip as of yet, but plan to, one of these times.
Soon, I'll be making my first roohide bullwhip,
i'm in the process of cleaning up my work shop, hahaha, getting all the leather scraps and waxed thread off the floor.
The leather you use does look simular to the kind of cowhide I use,
tuff stuff, yet flexable, after the stretch has been taken out.
Ok, dog knot, cool, I get that one confused with the crown knot.
I've been buying my cowhide from www.brettunsvillage.com been getting the 5oz cowhide, in tan, 50 dallars for 18 to 20 square foot, and that includes shipping.

For a smoother overlay take the thong off of the handle and put it on a flat table or board. Then use a length of two by four to roll it. This will squish your plaiting together.
