Bag strap buckle comparison pics AB, Keppler, Todds

Post by TheMechanic »

Here's some shots of my bag strap buckles side by side.
Adventurebilt, Keppler, Todds and the original.
This should help some of you make a more informed decision on your next bag strap buckle purchase.

The AB buckle is laser cut stainless steel and needs to be sanded and polished. The Keppler buckle from what I'm told is a nickel plated English buckle and the Todd's is a nickel plated Indian or Pakistani cast buckle.

I don't know about you guys but the buckle from Adventure Built looks the most spot on for me. :D

It is the most accurate. What always bothered me when watching Raiders was that his buckle is not perfectly square, it's almost square.
Everyone elses buckles are totally square which throws them off just enough to not look quite right.
The AB buckle is that way, almost square but not quite. It also has the propper thinness that some others lack. Too many buckles are very thick when they should just a bit over the thickness of a Quarter.

How much do the Keppler and AB straps/buckles go for? They both look very nice. Did the straps come with? What are your thoughts on the colors?

AB doesn't make straps. Just the buckle. Lee Keppler sells them for $30 :junior: -M

That's correct. Kepplers bag straps with the buckle are $36 shipped. The color of the Keppler strap is a dark mahogany, oiled leather. The AB buckles are something like $6.00.

Here's what Marc told me about the buckles...

We've spent so many hours on that little buckle (incl. techn. 3D drawings with Solidworks) just to get the perfect buckles for ourselves to start with, as we weren't able to find what we saw on film elsewhere. But in the end, the price for 10 or 200 buckles wasn't much different (due to the programming costs), so we chose to offer them at cost for fellow fans as well. I'm very pleased to hear that the pickyness is appreciated.

I wish I could have gotten that one first. It would have saved me alot of trouble, and money. I can't wait until their bag straps and gunbelts come out.

AB bag straps on the horizon, eh? I guess I'll hold out for that. Though it'll probably be like $200 a strap, like the holsters... :(

I do like the way that buckle looks though. And I've never been one of those guys who cares about the buckle, but I think I'd like one like this!

Thanks for the review!

Their holsters are nice, but for the price you can get 2 holsters custom made by practically your choice of U.S. holster makers. For now my Keppler is close enough.

Looking forward to seeing their belts and straps though.

I lost one of the screws on my MK VII bag strap. Should I buy a new bag strap from Todds? Or is there some other way I can replace the screw?

You can get Chicago screws at chicagoscrews.com or at Tandy leather. I've even seen them at hardware stores where they are called "aluminum screw posts".

Thanks for the info. I'm glad I don't have to buy a new strap.

Is this these the right type of screws for the strap?

I agree. I looks closest to the screen cap. I own a Keppler, and that is close enough for me.
It's also the only one shown at the same angle as the screen cap...

My Magnoli buckle looks similar to the Todd's buckle in overall shape, though it might be a little bit wider.

Keppler's buckle and strap are great... I just wish he had the strap in a very dark brown for the TOD , LC, CS look.

I don't have pictures to post, but the Magnoli buckle I have looks much like the NH one posted earlier. It lis large and flat, with the flat surface area seen being wide. The Todd's buckle has a recessed ceter bar and the flat edges are somewhat narrower. If I had to choose a brand against the screen cap, I would go with Todd's IMHO!
