USW owner w/ questions Re: Wested patterns
I have a USW lamb already and I love it, but I'd really like to have a more custom fit jacket, like a Wested. My only complaint about my USW is that the sleeves are pretty baggy but also ride up quite a bit when driving.
So, I have some questions about different aspects of getting a new Wested.
1. Which pattern (Raiders, LC, CS) is less likely to have the baggy sleeves and which pattern has the least sleeve ride-up effect? I've read that where the arm holes are placed (higher/lower) affects this.
2. Would gussets help in any of the patterns as far as arm movement or am I better off without them?
3. Can one get an LC or CS without the press studs, or should one just get a Raiders at that point.
4. Which leather is warmer, washed goat or novapelle? I'm assuming they would both be warmer than my USW antique lamb?
Thanks!

Ok, so I emailed Wested and heard back from Gemma.
She recommends underarm gussets to stop the jacket from riding up, although there was no answer on the question regarding which pattern has the least baggy sleeves and less ride up. I'm guessing from some other posts that the CS has baggier sleeves than the raiders. No idea which rides up less, other than that Gemma recommends underarm gussets as I mentioned above.
They can also do the LC/CS without press studs.
And she says the Novapelle is the "more hard wearing" than the washed goat (I think she means warmer as well, which was the original question).
Hope that helps anyone else with the same concerns.

If I may venture an opinion...
Yes, nova will be warmer than goat. It's cowhide. I think the only leather warmer than cowhide is horsehide.
Sleeve ride-up won't be as much of a problem with goat or cowhide as it will with thinner leathers. Still, snugger sleeves will cling more, and there will be more ride-up. Physics. Why did it have to be physics?
Now, if you still want less baggy sleeves, the Raiders pattern will probably be the best choice. But again, you invite the riding up. I would say, be generous with sleeve length requests so it won't look too bad... to the highest knuckle of your thumb when your arm is down in the relaxed position. Works for me.
Gussets will not help sleeve ride-up. Only jacket body ride-up.
And that's all I have to say, because I'm afraid I'll type "ride-up" again if I'm not - D'Oh!

To paraphrase Dirty Harry, opinions are like bellybuttons, everybody has one. As I've said before, I've owned dozens of premium leather jackets and not one has ever ridden up in the sleeves. Not one has ever shrunk with age.Chewbacca Jones wrote:If I may venture an opinion...

Also, the warmest leather I've had is goat. But only the Expedition goat with is thick and soft. The texture of this goat is flexible in a way cow rarely is unless it is cheap cow. So the goat wraps around you snuggly like a sweater, creating the most warmth. Just another.... opinion.
Cheers

Ihave the or goat and my sleeves ride up when driving, but my a-2's did the same thing and they have the knitted cuffs. I would guess it suppose to do that because if they didn't when you had your arms at your sides the sleeves would look like your wearing your big brothers jacket. just my 2 cents hope things work out.
Realy? I have e-mailed Wested on many occasions and always recieved an e-mail back from Gemma before noon the next day. Are you sure they didn't come in as spam? Did you try e-mailing them from a different account?Indiana Strones wrote:You're very lucky: I NEVER receive any reply to my emails from Wested, and this is very annoying.Arca Perdida wrote:Ok, so I emailed Wested and heard back from Gemma.
There seems to be some kind of technical problem here, as this is not something that seems typical for Wested.
