The Fan-Club jacket

Post by Kevin Anderson »

I've been following an Indy Jacket on a popular auction site....It looks great, and the price is ok. It's not the first I've seen for auction, but I've been able to find very little information about it. It's not the Disney jacket with the plane logo tag, but something else.
I'd love to grab it; and I think it'd fit, but what's the real story on these jackets? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks in advance!

There have been posts about these "lottery jackets" as well as photos. These are made in China rip-offs of USW jackets.

Do a search here and you will find out a lot of info. My advise is buyer beware. Spend a little extra for a real USW or a Wested. Or for the same price as what you'll most likely spend for the lottery jacket you can get a Todds jacket.

Maybe you should provide the title of the auction because all I can think you are describing is the lottery jacket.

This is not the lotto jacket Kevin is talking about but the fan club jacket; the title is OFFICIAL FAN CLUB INDIANA JONES LEATHER JACKET.

Exactly JC. That's the one. Not a lottery jacket, I've read about those! I'm suprised it hasn't sold yet, though the buyer says he bought it only recently from another auction.
I understand they were quite a limited edition, and if it's the real deal, It'd be a great collectable. If I don't end up buying it (ends soon), I hope someone here gets it, so it gets a loving home. Unless it's a piece of garbage, in which case, no one buy it! :)

The auction states its a vintage 1990's Cooper jacket for $250. Honestly, I would spend that $250 on a new USW or Wested (you might have to spend a few bucks extra), at least that way you can pinpoint the exact hide you want and wouldn't have to guess on the sizing issue, since both companies will discuss sizing with you, IMO.

Well, yes, but I already have one Wested, and another on the way.
I was just wondering if it was a good collectable; I mean, were there two million made? If so, sure, it's not worth it. Otherwise, short of it being terribly made or a fake, I think it'd be a worthy purchase, just to have something a little different. Maybe not to wear, just to keep.
However, the quick 'buy then sell' worries me...

I looked at the seller's feedback as I see he's in Hong Kong, he bought it a few months ago from the original owner for $222

If you need to save your wallet, why do you want the jacket if you are unsure about it? Maybe save the money for something you are certain about and not taking a chance on. Wonder why he is selling it so soon? Fit? Quality?

I guess I don't need to save my wallet; I'm a white male aged between 18 to 49 (Simpsons reference) I have money to burn! I just thought the jacket might be something special and worth owning, and was after opinions. I'd hoped someone here on COW may have even owned one. 18 years is a long time though, I understand, perhaps it's a bit too much of an unknown after all this time.
I've got the second Wested on the way, and hope to hear from TN soon.
Purchases aside, doesn't anyone know a little about the history of this Lucasfilm Fan-Club Cooper made (apparently) jacket? I'd love to hear more.

This is the seller's response as to why he's selling it:

Hi, the reason I'm selling it, because it's a bit too big for me, I should be only wearing medium. Thanks for looking!

This was my fan club jacket, purchased not long after the original release of Last Crusade.

If the auction you're watching is the one I found, I think the seller may be misinformed. The logo's on that jacket don't look right. I think it's newer than he was told, and I've never seen a fan club jacket with those logo tags. Also, the hide and stitching don't look right to me. The pre-Disney jackets were more consistent in appearance. I don't think you'll be getting a real fan club jacket from Cooper if you grab this one.

I now own a US Wings, which is the current incarnation of the Cooper jacket. The design is a dead-on match to my old fan club jacket, though the hides have changed a bit since then.

So it's a bit of a mystery? Cool! It's not the first I've seen with those tags and logos. If anything, I think it looks as authentic as your old fan jacket, Chewie. That 'Indiana Jones' and red plane logo was the same one that came with my cheapo wool-felt Fedora I purchased earlier this year, so it's been around forever I see. I've read a bit about a similar jacket on a very similar site to this one. The info is still there, with pics. Frankly I'm suprised no one here at COW knows more about this one.
The jacket that time forgot! I won't be buying it, but I hope it goes to an informed buyer.
Just a quick edit; I've found an old auction with pics of the original adverstisment for the jacket. In this auction, the jacket was withdrawn (and sold privately I believe). This seller states the jacket is from 1999.
And the pictures don't exactly look fantastic. Awful brown...

1999 might explain it. As I understand, by the late 90's the fan club jacket was in a flaming tailspin. And the logos might fit better with that time frame.
