Cloth Jackets

Post by IndianaGeo »

Hi All,
I hope this isn´t too off topic for this particular part of the forum...

I´ve always been somewhat intrigued by certain cloth jackets or even vests that have a lot of cool pockets in them.. Essentially the type of beige jacket one would wear in warmer climates that look "archeological" for lack of a better term. We´re all aware that the leather Indy jacket would most likely not be all that practical in temps higher than, say, 80 degrees or so. But to maintain what we might consider the "Indy look" above that temperature range, does anyone out there have any ideas in terms of good quality classic "archeological dig" type of cloth jackets or vests? Any particular brands that are classic in this sense? Thanks.

Belloq's jacket in Raiders comes to mind - or Mac's from Crystal Skull. Think Alec Guiness in Bridge over the River Kwai.

If you're specifically after an Indy jacket, Wested makes a denim Indy jacket with the same pattern, but made out of cotton instead of leather. Otherwise, I prefer to dig through the thrift shops and find stuff like this:

Mine is a WWII tropical army uniform jacket, hers a safari style. Each jacket was found in a thrift shop and less than 10 bucks.

The vest in my pic does okay with it. I think WPG does a patrol tunic ( or did ) and a few outfitters do the HD cutaway type jackets that could be modified. In any event, that's a handsome getty-up there Bink ( like the vest, esp. )

Anywho - lemme rerail this thing by saying you can hook up with an old BR jacket on ebay, generally. Not to post in the wrong spot, but I do have a pretty nice one ( darker brown ) that's on the big side for me, if you're in the 6' and above catagory...
